ener-G-save Friends:
You may know that out of ener-G-save's roots sprung a program called Cooler Communities. Here, we work with schools and towns to introduce all the issues that are important to us all like energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainability to students and families. Take a look at our Cooler Communities newsletter which is below.
And do let us know if you would like to help bring this program to YOUR town! (write to education@ener-g-save.com)
Have a great summer.

Dear Friends of Cooler Communities,

We made it. Summer is here and gifted with inviting weather and nature's bounty we hope you all get a chance to relax, breathe in the scent of flowers, moss or of something delicious on the grill and re-charge your batteries. Especially for those of you who are working or learning in schools, we wish you a deeply restful and rejuvenating break and a much more predictable year ahead.

We too are taking a break, wrapping up four wonderfully inspiring Cooler Communities events in Springfield, AgawamGreenfield and Sherborn, our first venture in "the East". From over 1500 students participating in Springfield and Agawam to a small group of High Schoolers at the Greenfield High School Environmental Club, all participants worked very very hard to not lose sight of climate change and climate solutions during a very difficult school year. It's that kind of commitment, focus and creativity that makes this program so rewarding!

And of course our sights are set on next year's programs. We will be working with even more towns and will hopefully be able to include in-person events again!

We want to give a special shout out to the Greenfield High School Environmental Club, its leader Jacob Frank and teacher Patrick Garland, and share this video interview Jacob did with the town's sustainability director, Carole Collins. Carole does an incredible job at explaining something very complicated - the towns' solar array and power purchase agreement - in clear ways and the interview demonstrates really well how Cooler Communities can connect students, schools and towns and crosses subjects from science to civics to media.

And here is our action item for these hot months of the year - did you know that keeping your room just two or three degrees warmer in the summer by turning the AC UP a little can have a big impact on your energy bill? Here is a fun tool to let you calculate just how much on average

And of course there is an even cheaper and more climate friendly way: wear breathable clothing like cotton, use a fan, close curtains and blinds during the day and air-cool the house at night!

And take care to stay cool - more information on how to avoid heat related health issues, see here.

The students and towns we are working with are catching the media's attention. Among many other articles written, we are grateful to Business West for this comprehensive and carefully written piece on Cooler Communities!
