Dear Jura Comrades,

It’s been a while since you’ve heard from us. As some of you already know, Jura had a bit of a disaster back in February when a construction crew next door punched a hole through our wall. The good news is that no one was injured, and that our insurance is covering the costs of repairs (massive thank you to those of you who have been helping us pay for insurance!) After many months we’ve finally started rebuilding the brick wall and we’re hoping to have the shop open to the public by September.

We’re very excited about the Sydney Anarchist Conference! Organised by Sydney Anarcho-Communists and supported by Jura, the IWW, and Black Flag. The conference was originally scheduled for July 24, but due to the covid outbreak in Sydney, it is now postponed until October. We think it’ll be worth the wait, as we bring together activists, organisers, dreamers, and revolutionaries across the continent for a day of discussion about anarchism and libertarian socialism, and how we can use them to smash capitalism and build a better world – without bosses, rulers, or masters.

New Anarchists on the Block

Black Flag Sydney is a new autonomous anarchist collective. They publish a monthly newspaper called Mutiny. From their website:

“Direct action is our method, a revolution following the general strike is our goal, and self-management is our vision for today and the future. We aim not only to dismantle systems of capitalist exploitation, but to build the capacity for people to freely and truly self-manage their workplaces, communities, and lives.”

Anarchist Reading Group

Sydney Anarcho-Communists host fortnightly anarchist reading groups every second Tuesday at Jura. Previous topics have included mutual aid, the Russian Revolution, ecology, education, solidarity networks, and more.
