£117k Canada-Northern Ireland Fund
The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Future Screens NI partner, Northern Ireland Screen announce the reopening of their funding incentive for the development of screen-based projects between Canadian and Northern Ireland producers. The maximum contribution to each project will be £29, 250. Deadline 1 September.

New European research and innovation funding programme includes opportunities for the UK cultural heritage and creative industries, with over 144.5m euros available. Deadlines Autumn 2021 & Spring 2022.

£25k Creative Enterprise New Ideas Fund
The New Ideas Fund is offering grants of between £1-25k to creative practitioners and companies working in moving image. Applications accepted on a rolling basis.

These Creative Enterprise grants of up to £5k will support companies who work in moving image for storytelling, spanning film television, games and immersive, to build meaningful connections and create opportunities for business growth.

BEYOND 2021: Creativity, Economy & Place
BEYOND 2021 is planned as a hybrid conference, offering our international community the opportunity to join us online for live and catch-up sessions, but also welcoming delegates and speakers to Belfast in person.
Taking the theme of place, the programme will explore how the Creative Industries are forming the heart of new vibrant cultural and creative economies. Leaders, researchers, policy makers, creators and artists will come together to understand how place impacts, influences and shapes these economies, the roles of identity and diversity in places and spaces, how creative technologies augment and connect places, real & virtual, along with many more ideas and considerations essential to the future of our creative industries.

Immersive Arcade: The Showcase Volume 3 Launching 9 July
Immersive Arcade: The Showcase is the first national collection of the best of British virtual reality (VR) and 360 experiences is back soon for its third volume. The showcase is designed to reimagine these celebrated productions and immerse visitors within them. The project has been commissioned by UKRI, as part of the Audience of the Future challenge. Launching on 9th July, the showcase will be free to download and full information on how to access is available here.

PanelPicker® Open To Speak At SXSW 2022
The SXSW PanelPicker® is now open for proposals to speak at next year's event. Every year, SXSW receives thousands of speaking proposals from innovators and thought leaders from around the world. These speaking proposals provide a small (but significant) glimpse into how the rest of the world is approaching all kinds of creative endeavours as the human race begins to rebound from the ravages of the pandemic.
PanelPicker® is FREE to enter and closes on 22nd July 2021. The SXSW community will be able to browse proposals, leave comments, and vote to help shape the event during Community Voting from 10-26 August. Speakers receive a Platinum badge for the event, and a global platform for their ideas.

Everything Is Music Now Live!
CRACK and Landmrk - one of Bristol + Bath Creative R+D's Digital Placemaking Prototype teams recently launched Everything is Music, a sonic tour of Bristol and Bath. Music lovers are invited to explore the stories of Bristol and Bath’s iconic music scenes through this location-based digital museum project. Taking you on a tour of music through the ages, it celebrates over 250 locations with stories from St Pauls’ sound systems, to a pub in Nailsea connected to The Wurzels’.

Innovation Manager Vacancy at UAL
University of the Arts London is recruiting an Innovation Manager to support Knowledge Exchange activities. The role will involve developing and managing innovation-focused activities (including Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and contract research). Applications due by Sunday 11 July.

Canada & NI Reopen Co-Development Incentive
The Canada Media Fund and Future Screens NI partner Northern Ireland Screen announce the reopening of their funding incentive for the development of screen-based projects between Canadian and Northern Ireland producers. Now in its fourth consecutive year, the Canada-Northern Ireland Co-development Incentive for Audio-visual Projects funds the co-development of television projects in the drama, documentary, animation or education genres, or digital. The maximum contribution to each project will be £29,250. Deadline 1 September.

PEC Call For Commissioned Projects
PEC are interested in commissioning work related to three themes; Climate Change, Post-Brexit Opportunities and Challenges, Digital Opportunities and Business Model Innovation. There is no minimum or maximum value, but any proposals over £50k are unlikely to be accepted. Deadline for expressions of interest is 23 July.

Artists Announced For Ocean ARTic Residency!
MASTS, Blue Action and Creative Informatics have announced the two artists who will take part in their Ocean ARTic artist-in-residency programme, exploring marine climate data. The 6-week Residency will be completed by July 2021 with the expectation for two new artworks to be commissioned for launch ahead of the UN COP26 climate conference in November 2021.
Composer Michael Begg and environmental artist Eve Mosher will work with marine scientists to explore climate change data, producing new work to raise awareness about changes in the Arctic and potential consequences closer to home.

Plugging The Data Gap: Freelance Workers In The Creative Industries
The Covid-19 crisis has highlighted the lack of available data on the self-employed and freelance workforce, and this gap is particularly acute in the Creative Industries. Although well documented nationally this gap became apparent at a local level during mapping exercises carried out by Creative Informatics and Clwstwr. This article by PEC describes some of the issues that are creating barriers to understanding the Creative Industries workforce, especially the self-employed and freelancers.

Screen Yorkshire Launches FLEX - UK Creative Development Hub For Agile Storytellers
This ground-breaking development hub for screen talent from across the UK is providing an opportunity for writers, producers and directors to explore story in an inspiring and progressive, platform neutral, space. Applications are now open to Screen Yorkshire's brand-new FLEX programme, developed in collaboration with the Screen Industries Growth Network. FLEX is a physical and online space for the best of the UK’s emerging creative talent to form agile storytelling partnerships.
Applications are open to writers, directors and producers to apply as individuals, writers may also apply as a writing duo. A minimum of one member of the creative team will be from Yorkshire and the Humber. The deadline to apply is 12 noon Thursday 22 July 2021.

Following the successful launch of The Big Fix Up, immersive storytelling venture Fictioneers have teased news of their exciting new city-scale AR experience coming to Bristol, Cardiff and San Francisco this summer. 'Fix Up The City' will use the power of Augmented Reality and hyper-precise digital scanning to transform the three cities into a virtual stage.

Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix Up Shortlisted For Two Cannes Lions Awards
The 'Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix Up' AR experience was shortlisted for TWO Lions awards at last month's Cannes Lions Festival, including 'Mobile' and 'Brand Experience & Activation', from 2100+ entries submitted across both categories. A collaboration between Aardman and Fictioneers (co-owned by Potato, Sugar Creative and Tiny Rebel Games), this recognition is testament to the groundbreaking work that pushed the boundaries of possibility within AR media and developing multilayered stories to capture the public’s imagination.

'Positive Realities' Winner For Coventry UK City Of Culture 2021 Announced
Last year StoryFutures Academy announced the open innovation challenge “Positive Realities”, a partnership and a pathfinder project that would explore innovative new approaches to health and wellbeing for Coventry UK City of Culture 2021. The awarded team consists of Amrit Singh, Creative Director at Rebel Creatives and Nigel P. Harris, Creative Director at JellyBob, who are collaborating on a web-based augmented reality project called “Urban Jungle” that they will be prototyping in time for a series of outdoor events in Coventry this summer.

NFTS Scotland & The Glasgow School Of Art: Artists Into Immersive Labs
Artists into Immersive will provide training and project development support in a series of virtual introductory Immersive Labs from StoryFutures Academy, The Glasgow School of Art and independent companies, for creative practitioners across all areas of Scotland. Attendees will learn about immersive production, the potential of VR/AR/MR and lots more. Course dates are from 28 July - 2 September, with applications due by Weds 14th July.

Rocketmakers Showcase Real-Time Content Delivery Into 3D Worlds
Rocketmakers completed its Audience of the Future funded project with a showcase of Beam, delivering instant content updates to a variety of different 3D worlds. Using just the simple Beam web tool, Rocketmakers' partners on the project showed how easy it is to update assets in their 3D worlds instantly, from games to virtual retail, and art galleries to architecture.
