Community League Programs and News

You & your neighbours in your hall!

We're reopening Bonnie Doon Community Hall. We generally don't run many in-hall programs in the summer. Our August newsletter will have details about restarting yoga, our preschool playgroup, Zumba, Men's Shed, potlucks, etc.

One big change will be the way we rent the hall. We will make it easier for residents and groups located in the Greater Bonnie Doon Area to benefit from the hall. This means low rental rates for neighbours and local not-for-profit groups plus renting to outside groups only if their programs and events bring a direct benefit to Bonnie Dooners.

Through 2020 a large portion of our operating budget came from renting our hall to anyone who could afford to pay around $1,000 for a Saturday rental. People from all over Edmonton and nearby towns rented the hall for banquets, wedding receptions, etc. The revenue was welcome but the costs of cleanup plus wear & tear on the building were high.

Our goal is for events and programs in the hall to encourage connections amongst our neighbours.

We're still working out the details of increasing local use of the hall. Please write to Duane, hallrental@bonniedoon.ca if you need space for your event or program.

Watch your dog!

Some people have complained about dogs at Bonnie Doon Park. We remind you that dogs must always be on a leash when on public property and should be contained in a secure yard or building when on your property. Dogs are not allowed on school grounds, sports fields, playgrounds and golf courses. The fine for violating this bylaw is $100. [Source]
