Charity Day in Brighton’s Royal Pavilion Gardens

On Saturday 10th July between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm, the annual Charity Day will take place in the Pavilion Gardens. The Mary Clarke Statue Appeal will be there for the very first time amongst many other worthy charities. There will be stalls, music and performance - and of course food and drink in David Sewell’s marvellous cafe.

Please come down and visit us and ask any questions you may have. We’ll have our new leaflets on display, a collection box for donations and postcards to buy. It will be an opportunity to see the resin maquette (model) of the statue and a seven foot tall board ‘cut out’ of the statue. It should be eye catching! There will also be an opportunity to discuss our preferred site for the eventual statue (subject to planning), which is in the Pavilion Gardens by the Museum Entrance, out of sight of the Pavilion itself but in an accessible position where it can be easily seen by every school party and visitor attending the Museum. We believe both children and adults will learn from and be inspired by Mary Clarke’s life and sacrifice.

Bronze Maquette on Display in the Jubilee Library

The bronze maquette is now on display in a locked cabinet in Brighton’s Jubilee Library. Our thanks to Beverley Leonard and her colleagues for all their help in setting this up. It will remain on display for one month until 21st July and we hope will return at a later date. Even if you have seen the resin maquette, do please view the bronze. The quality is very much better and the quotes on the plinth far clearer and easier to read.

Business Sponsors are Needed

We are actively looking for business sponsors for the Appeal, including any that may be willing to associate their name with the project once it comes to fruition. We also need major individual donors, ideally people who are willing to be named as ‘Gold Donors’.

We have already reported that Denise Dutton, our wonderful sculptor, has offered to make a very small edition of duplicate bronze maquettes available to major donors who give £6,000 or more to the Appeal. She has generously offered to do this at cost, so apart from foundry and delivery charges, all profits will go to the Appeal. This is an amazing offer from Denise who is internationally known and in great demand. Anyone with suggestions about businesses or individuals who may be interested, or who needs information, should contact jeancalder.mcsa@gmail.com.
