“Things are as bad and as good as they seem. There’s no need to add anything extra.” - Pema Chodron, The Places that Scare You
I hope this message finds you well.

One of my teachers used to say that summer was a good time for deep inner work; the bright sunny days bring much-needed balance to the dark and messy inner travails. So lately, I’ve been pulling my energy more inwards. It’s been about 16 months since This all began, and there’s a lot to digest.

We are living in a stunningly chaotic time. The world is changing quickly, and the resistance to change is just as fierce.

I think many of us care deeply about our world, and that’s why when things fall apart, there is so much discomfort. And since we don’t want to be in discomfort, it might transmute into blame, denial, anger, arrogance, blind optimism, <insert fave coping mechanism here>. What is it that we add when things are bad?

And, what happens when things are good? What do we add then? Do we pour on the euphoria, or clench in anticipation of the comedown?
Equanimity is letting go: of attachment to outcome, of the things we can’t control, of the past. Equanimity is NOT withdrawal, sidestepping of responsibility, or amnesia. It is a process that we each ground into and navigate in order to take a breath and say, “That’s over. What’s next?”

In the practice of equanimity, some of us could stand to hurry up a little - if we are prone to rumination and paralysis, let the summer heat light your inner fire of action!

Meanwhile, some of us need to slow down - to not rush over the feelings, to hold ourselves tenderly.

Also meanwhile, some of us are maintaining a decent pace 💜.

Also also meanwhile, someone’s right might be your wrong. And that’s ok.

Whether I catch you in-person or online, or whether you’re taking a break from practice (and want to wear some nice clothes, perchance?! 😘), I wish you comfort and well-being and good pacing.

Did you know that I started an apparel company called Pretty Ermine? Did you know I’m really proud of it?! Did you know I’ll probably start bawling with happy tears when I see you wearing a shirt I designed?!!!?? Check it out here!

Summer is hot and gorgeous with an emphasis on hot. This Saravat Sweet Renewal Facial Tonic Mist contains rosewater and neroli to help soothe red and puffy skin, and (bonus) smells good too.

If this heat is causing breakouts and acne (hello, second puberty?!), then the Cool & Clear Mist is for you: non-alcoholic witchhazel gently dissolves oiliness and the licorice brightens dull spots and scars.

I’ve been alternating between the two and it’s been making a huge difference. Find more here!
