Welcome to the Oregon Region's
July 2021 Newsletter!

Hello Oregon Region!

Welcome to SUMMERTIME!!

Can you believe it is already July??  We are now half way through the year and summer fun and heat is here! This month we have several clinics happening at Inavale. For the members preparing for Certification, these are great opportunities to see where they are in preparation and get some time with other members working on the same thing.  The clinics are at Inavale Farm (thank you Caroline and Luigi!).

With how hot it has been, please remember to drink lots of water, apply and reapply all the sunblock, and hang out in as much shade as possible.  But watch out for poison oak!

Please remember to pay for any events you sign up for promptly. The Region’s ability to plan, organize, and host events is based off of member participation.

If you are looking for some inspiration in between rides on your own horse, the Tokyo Olympics are happening! And in the Equestrian competitions, Pony Club has former members on every US team and the Australian team is made up entirely of Pony Clubbers.

Hope to see you all getting out there and enjoying riding!
                                                                             ~ Jocelyn Ehlers

I hope this finds you all enjoying your summer so far and the break from me asking for you to volunteer! I don't have any Regional volunteer needs for a while so have fun in your clubs and with your ponies for now. The next big Regional event is Show Jumping Rally which will be in the fall. So, until then, Happy Summer!

Do you want to give back to Pony Club? My position as Vice RS: Volunteer Coordinator is open for next year as I will be moving on after 9 years. I have EVERYTHING you will need in  Google Drive folders and will train/ assist you in the transition. Contact me if you have any interest or any questions.

~ Tracy Stout, VRS

CLUB NEWS

Highland Riders PC: June was all about certifications for HPRC. Anna Young gave our club a great certification prep and Jordan Schulz and Mikayla Stout were our wonderful examiners. We all got up super early to beat the heat and learned an important lesson about prioritizing your pony's well-being - we decided to test just HM and save the riding for cooler weather. Congrats to Ariana (D1), Izzi (D1 and D2 HM), Kayla (D2 HM), and Madeline (C1 HM) on a job well done! This month we will be learning about how to care for your pony during hot weather and cheering on Madeline, Izzy, Payton, and Mackenzie as they head to Kentucky for Quiz Champs and Festival.

We are always looking for guest instructors. If any upper level members need practice in teaching, send them our way!

Oregon Trail PC:  What a busy month!  Oregon Trail members and parents started June by having several members and parents helping at the Inavale fundraising weekend.  They worked hard and were flexible with doing whatever jobs were asked of them - thank you Tayte, Lauren, Caro, Jane, Kirin and Caroline.  Let's use those Inavale XC vouchers soon!     June saw the opportunity to have  2 work parties to weed whack and mow to clear  XC jumps,  and also weed, prune and generally tidy up the arena and water jump at Far Hill Farm.   Everyone worked hard - one day in pouring rain, and the other in baking hot heat!  But we got the jobs done, and were able to enjoy the benefits of 2 great XC lessons!  It also felt great to give back to our instructor, Lyn, who we are so fortunate to have.

Tayte helped with teaching at Highland Riders giving a bandaging lesson, Lauren helped at Willamette Valley as an apprentice at their recent certification and we have 3 members going to the Eventing Clinic at Inavale next weekend!

Busy, happy and hardworking - moms, girls and ponies!    It's the Pony Club way!!

She started with Eventing in middle school and continued through High School. During College she rode on her college's IHSA team making it to Zone's in her senior year. After college, she bought her very first horse herself (Bren) and continued in eventing and eventually landing a teaching and managing job at a barn. She started a Pony Club Riding Center as a way to bring the Horsemanship and Management side of horses to her students who did not own horses. It has turned into one of the best decisions for her program. She is looking forward to helping all Centers and Clubs bring the best HM possible to their members.

Treasurer ~ Michele Stevens
Michele has served on the Regional Board since 2018. She is also currently the DC of Oregon Trail Pony Club. Her daughter, Emma, started in Pony Club at the end of 2005 with Oregon Trail, and did certifications every year, achieving her A Rating when she was 17.  Since then, Emma has continued to help out Pony Clubs in the US and the UK, by teaching and as an examiner.  Michele joined as an official Pony Club member, shortly after Emma went to university, and has evented to the Beginner Novice level, and achieved her D2 eventing certification.

Regional Instructional Coordinator ~ Jordan Schulz
Jordan is a B level member of Patton Valley Pony Club. Jordan has been a member of Pony Club for about 15 years now, and has traveled to Cle Elum and Kentucky for championships, once in eventing and once in show jumping. Throughout her equestrian career she has worked for Grand Prix rider and trainer Terri Rocovich, as well as 4 star riders Ryan Wood and Courtney Cooper. Jordan is currently working towards her HA and A level certifications and is an assistant trainer at Inavale Farms in Corvallis. Jordan looks forward to "seeing" everyone this year and can't wait for the accomplishments 2021 will bring!

Secretary ~ Anna Hohl
Anna joined the Regional Board in 2020 and has been involved with Pony Club since 2018. She is also the DC of Highland Riders Pony Club. Her daughter, Madeline, is a D3 EV with Highland Riders. Anna has fond memories of growing up riding horses, but now lives vicariously through her two horse-crazy daughters.
