Competition 18 - 'Stroke and Technology' and 'Delivering a Net Zero NHS'
Funded by NHS England and NHS Improvement, SBRI Healthcare aims to develop innovative products and services that address unmet health needs. Phase 1 is intended to show the technical feasibility of the proposed concept. The development contracts placed will be for a maximum of 6 months and up to £100,000 (inc. VAT) per project.

In collaboration with the Stroke Association and the AHSN Network, SBRI Healthcare is pleased to announce the opening of the 'Stroke and Technology' competition. Stroke care is a critical issue for health systems globally, with someone having a stroke every two seconds somewhere in the world. In the UK stroke is the fourth biggest killer and costs society £26 billion annually.
Companies and organisations are being invited to bid for funding to develop innovative solutions to tackle three specific challenges:
1. Pre-hospital diagnosis
2. Rehabilitation
3. Life after stroke

SBRI Healthcare is delighted to announce, in collaboration with the Greener NHS Programme, the Accelerated Access Collaborative and the AHSN Network, the opening of the 'Delivering a Net Zero NHS' competition. Companies and organisations are being invited to bid for funding to develop innovation solutions tackling the following challenges:
1. Reducing emissions from care miles
2. Reducing emissions from surgical pathways
3. Reducing nitrous oxide emissions
4. Tools to support low-carbon decision making
A briefing webinar will be held for all interested parties on 8th July 2021 at 13:00. The event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the competition, understand the challenges from experts in the sector, discover how the AHSNs can provide support in your application, and ask your questions.

Competition 19 - 'Mental Health Inequalities in children and young people' and 'NHS Reset & Recovery and New Ways of Working'
SBRI Healthcare is pleased to launch a late-stage pilot competition. The aim of the competition is to accelerate the delivery of promising, more mature products into front-line clinical settings.
Innovators may use this opportunity to gather Real World Evidence required by commissioners and regulators to make purchasing or recommendation decisions and develop activities to support NHS uptake and wider commercialisation.
The development contracts placed will be for a maximum of 9 months and up to £400,000 (inc. VAT) per project.

SBRI Healthcare Programme Annual Review 2019/20
In case you missed it, the SBRI Healthcare Annual Review has been recently published, featuring some of the compelling achievements companies backed by SBRI Healthcare have delivered.
Since the Programme was created, it has continued to deliver value for money and has supported a strong portfolio of 217 innovative medical technology solutions and invested £99m+. We featured 14 business entrepreneurs to show how the programme unleashes innovations for enhanced patient benefit and enables efficiency improvement in the NHS, transforming people’s lives through patient-centred healthcare innovations. SBRI Healthcare is also key in boosting the innovation pipeline and attracting private investment, supporting companies’ growth and wealth creation in the UK and overseas. We have made great strides.

LightPoint Medical has completed an $8 million financing round in late March to support the commercial launch of its Robotic Cancer Detection Probe. The funding includes follow-on investment from private investors, Oxford Technology, Venture Founders, Coutts Bank, and new funding from the British Business Bank Future Fund, bringing the total raised by the company to $18 million.
A leading enterprise for remote care management, closed an oversubscribed $43m Series B financing round to scale remote care management platform. The funding comes on the heels of 3,000%+ growth in year-over-year revenue, making Current Health one of the fastest growing healthcare companies.
A UK-based biopharmaceutical company aiming to transform the cell therapies has recently closed the second round of its Series A financing of $17 million, bringing the total raised to $33 million in this round. The funding will support the advancement of Mogrify’s immuno-oncology and ophthalmology programs, as well as continued platform development and the exploration of cell reprogramming for novel therapeutic application.
Xim Ltd secured a £1.2m loans from Innovate UK to scale their Lifelight remote patient monitoring.
A digital triage provider supported through SBRI Healthcare Competition 17 has acquired video consultation and SMS platform Q doctor. The acquisition of Q doctor is the latest step in eConsult’s growth story, having secured a £7M investment from Gresham House Ventures and Calculus Capital in October 2020 to fuel expansion into the secondary care market. The company was also granted Phase 4 funding from the AI in Health and Care award for their workload management solution that uses artificial intelligence to intelligently triage and route patient requests to the most appropriate contact within GP surgeries.

In May we were delighted to hold a virtual leadership programme, 'Empowering Women in Health Tech Innovation', hosted jointly with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Invention for Innovation (i4i), and the Artificial Intelligence in Health and Care award (AI) programmes.
The group came away inspired and refreshed, ready to apply new perspectives to their own leadership within the sector, and to share approaches within their teams.
