Dear Friends,
As I sit here in my office for the first time since June, I find myself wanting to do nothing more than call each of you, hear what I’ve missed and connect once more. I begin this newsletter with a thank you. First and foremost, to Janson, for stepping up and out of his comfort zone and diving in with gusto. A special thank you to Matthew Kelley and the Leadership Team, Tanya Russiff and the Trustees and Jenny Erickson and the Staff Parish Relations Committee for leading, guiding and stepping in.
I began my vacation with a personal retreat, just me and a bunch of strangers avoiding each other at St. John’s Abbey, that name might remind you of the beautiful Bible we sometimes use in worship. A focus on God, God’s creation and the creative works of art, gave me an incredible setting to simply stop and BE with God and with myself.
The following time was spent with family and friends, both here in West Fargo and across a few different states, camping, traveling and again simply Being.
This last week, I ended my time away with the reason for it. A retreat called Higher Ground, gathered Pastors from around the conference in our 8th, 16th, 24th, 32nd and 40th years of ministry (plus 1 because of COVID). We gathered together in a time of worship, quiet rest and the deep work of renewal. We focused on four specific areas of well-being. On our Spiritual, Emotional, Physical and Financial health. Talking through the whys and how’s of our lives that lead us into unhealthy habits, leaving us stuck in patterns of both sin and struggle.
I am incredibly grateful for my time away, to renew myself, my calling and my rhythms of life. You may find me practicing some new habits in all areas of health, including planned retreats and worship, new rhythms of physical health and emotional well-being.
The one area of my life that has been affirmed again and again in my time away is the constant and loving presence of God. Challenging me to grow, guiding me to rest and calling me again and again.
As I know that summer is often the time of vacation for so many of us, I want o know, what have you experienced in your time away, your time at home, the lake or anywhere else.
Has God spoken to you in your rest?
In Christ.

Mission Trip - March 2022
We have had team members on past solar oven teams to both Sierra Leone and the Dominican Republic and we have three members from our church, Carol Knodle, Carol Jacobsen and Amy “Jiggy” Trapp signed up to go to the Dominican Republic with a Solar Oven team in March 2022. Pastor Quaya Ackerman from Arthur UMC and Wally Sizer from Fargo First UMC will also be part of this team.

Solar Oven Workshop
We are planning a trip to the Solar Oven Workshop in Raymond, SD (45 miles west of Watertown, SD) later this summer or fall. Anyone is welcome, from 15 to 105. All components come together here. The parts are secured with bundle-wrap and eventually placed into the 5-oven boxes and sealed for shipping. This is also where they manufacture the bread-pans and hole-punch the metal frame pieces. So look for more information on this opportunity later.
Solar Ovens - "Extras" bags
Another opportunity to help with solar ovens is to sew the bags that contain the “extras” that come with the ovens; measuring cups and spoons, oven thermometer, black cloth to cover the bread pans when baking, and a device to indicate when water in the oven is hot enough to be purified. These are simple sewing projects. For more information, contact Carol Knodle.

Jesus Christ is indeed worthy of all the praise, honor, and glory we can give Him. But what about us? Are we worthy of God's Love? Obviously, we are! God sent Jesus to live and die for us. Still, do you ever have those moments where you feel like you don't deserve it -- as though whatever your sin is, it can somehow keep you from Love? Impossible! Be comforted. Know the Truth, stand on the Word.
Peace be with you,
Janson
