‘HEAD’ Lines

Making a difference
Dear Parents/Carers

A little slice of ‘something like normal’ returned to John Hanson last week, when we completed the process of deciding which students would fulfil the roles of Head Boy, Head Girl and their deputies for the forthcoming academic year.

This year we had the largest number ever of students putting themselves forward for these positions. Following an initial letter and an interview, they all stood up in front of a panel and without exception, gave great speeches. In each and every speech the students outlined very clearly ‘the difference’ they wanted to make if they gained one of the 4 posts. More than any year I can remember, their collective voices projected a real desire to support ‘their school’ in becoming even better at providing the building blocks of educational success for John Hanson students.

I was so proud of each and every one of them and the part the school has played in helping them to become confident and articulate, and now the most senior, members of our school community.

After some significant deliberation the following students were endorsed for the 4 posts:

Head Girl: Lucy Hide
Head Boy: Jamie Biddlecome
Deputy Head Girl: Amae Smith
Deputy Head Boy: George Harris

Photos to follow next week.

I am very much looking forward to working with them over the next year.

Enjoy the weekend with your children.

Memorial garden

Some members of the support group have been busily prepping and planting up the garden to make it summer ready over the last couple of weeks. Doesn’t it look lovely!

The group will be meeting in year groups next week to catch up and make plans for next year. Watch this space…

Apprenticeship Opportunity at Orvis for Current Year 11s

2 apprenticeships available within Orvis's distribution centre.  The apprentice will attain an NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing with a specialism.

There are some specific specialist skills offered as training which would be to either work in our personalisation area, learning embroidering logos and name on our dog beds and tailoring our trousers and would suit somebody with an interest in sewing. And the second to work in our repair area, learning how to repair graphite fly-fishing rods, fly-fishing reels and other products, so an interest in engineering or mending/repairing would be advantageous.

If you are interested email Mrs Pope so she can forward you the contact details.

Music for students in Year 10 (current Year 9's) - next school year

We will be running a Music course for students in Years10 and 11 which will be an extra qualification if they choose to follow the course.

The sessions will run each week after school on Tuesdays between 3pm and 4.15 in PA1. Students attending the course will be expected to attend every week - treating it just like another lesson.

We did not have enough students to run it within the main options but we are able to run the course as mentioned above. Students will also be expected to work on the course in their own time too - rehearsing / completing homework etc.

Please let me know if your son/daughter would like to take the course (as described in the option booklet)

Motivational Album 2021, English as Additional Language students

What do you do to get motivated!
VISIT THE ALBUM HERE

Even the most positive of people sometimes face a situation where they lack motivation, so it`s  important to overcome this lack of enthusiasm and encourage our students to undertake frequent activities, take up new personal hobbies or even  develop  different skills, these are necessary as it will support positively their wellbeing. Taking  breaks and focusing on other life challenges  will help them relax  between school work, this can improve their personal goals and achievements as keeping motivated remains a big challenge.

With this in mind, few weeks ago students were encouraged to participate in this big challenge, to share their hobbies, skills  and experiences with us.

I am  very pleased to have received  so many images containing  a variety of  fantastic activities, some done at home, some with family members, other`s  whilst being out and about. I have carefully collated them and rearranged all pictures into our Motivational Album that I am very proud to share with you all.

Be well, keep safe
