Talk of the Town News

Launching our Talking Shop

It’s been a couple of weeks since we opened our Talking Shop and a week since we welcomed some of you at the shop to say thanks for supporting us.

We had the most gorgeous Positive Carrickfergus cupcakes from Baked by Bap and a steady stream of old and new friends. It was fab to see people in the shop!

Thanks to everyone who made it along.

If you didn’t make it this time, feel free to drop in. We might also do some more invited events so that we make sure to entice you in!

Carrick Harbour Stories - target exceeded!

We did it!

We started a crowd funding campaign a couple of weeks ago to raise funds to create a virtual tour of our Sails and Tales exhibition for people with mobility issues as our exhibition is up the stairs in Kelly’s Coal Office.

I’m delighted to tell you that we have exceed our £360 target and raised £388.75!

Aren’t people wonderful and generous?!

Laura is already working on the recording and we’ll let you know when it’s available on our website.

Thank you so much if you were able to contribute.

And if you haven’t had a chance to get into the exhibition just yet, do pop in and let us know what you think. We’ve got a dedicated facebook page that you can follow and share with your friends and family too.

Wildest Dreams Postcards

We’re currently displaying around 100 Wildest Dreams in our Talking Shop.

Call in to see what your neighbours are saying about what they want for our town. And if you haven’t had a chance to complete your postcard yet, you can add yours to the display.

Positive Carrickfergus Events Calendar

Have you seen the events calendar that we’ve just added to our website?

This calendar is for all events in Carrick - not just ours - so if you’ve got an event coming up, let us know when, where, who and send us a pic and we’ll add it to the calendar and let people know that it’s happening.

If this works, the events calendar will become a one-stop shop for all events in Carrick and we won’t hear again the sad lament that is so common in Carrick - ‘I didn’t know that was happening’!!

This week we’ve got:

Carrick Sing - community pop up singing in the Courtyard Garden on Tuesday 29th at 3pm and 7pm. Everyone welcome for a socially distanced sing song.

Our first of 2 map making workshops on Tuesday 29 June from 7-9pm which will be a guided tour of the town, followed by a map making workshop the following Tuesday in our Talking Shop. Let me know if you’d like to join us.

Carrick Artisan Market on 3 July in Market Place. This market went really well in May and June and there are lots of local traders to support so get along if you can.

Hopefully that list will continue to grow over the summer and the Covid situation improves.

Have a brilliant weekend and hope to see you soon
