Talofa lava!

Welcome to the July edition of our monthly newsletter. We are well into winter now, but the days are now getting longer. Remember that moving your body is a great way to keep warm!

Over the past week, we have said farewell to two of our long-standing team members, Stew, who supported whānau in Upper Hutt, Porirua, Wellington City and Kāpiti, and Anya, who supported whānau in the Hutt Valley. Stew and Anya will be greatly missed by our team and by the communities they have walked alongside.

Keep an eye out in the coming months for some fresh faces in our team. We have two vacancy adverts out now for Regional Programme Advisor roles. If you or someone in your whānau or community are interested, view the position description and send your CV and cover letter to info@nukuora.org.nz by 5pm Monday 19th July 2021, we would love to hear from you.

See you in the community soon.

Healthy Lifestyles Programme
  • A successful programme was run by our fabulous Programme Advisors Nicole and Tiana. This programme covered all aspects of Te Whare Tapa Whā, which the group said they really enjoyed. The group has been cooking, making and discussing goals, aqua jogging, walking and attending NOFO fitness. We thank all those who were involved and helped to make this programme one of the best yet!
Active Families Programmes
  • Our Active Families Whānau based sessions will begin next term. We will be doing a range of activities from badminton, hunger ball, pickleball and mini-golf, cooking and nutrition. If you would like to know more, ask your Programme Advisor as we would love to see your whānau there.

Matariki Wellington

Matariki signals the Māori New Year. It's a time of celebration and gratitude in Aoteroa as it begins with the rising of the Matariki star cluster. It is one of the brightest star clusters in the sky, containing hundreds of members of stars.

In 2021 Matariki will set on 2 June and rise again from 2 –10 July.  The new moon following the rising of Matariki signals the Māori New Year.

Celebrate Matariki at one of the many events happening around the Wellington region. You can find an event here. Head into Fab Lab in Masterton to create your very own stars and constellations on the laser cutter and 3D printers!
