Scavenger Hunt Page
The map and flag images are up on our website for you to print a copy of the map and find the locations on the lake.  A random draw will be held for all participants and flag hosts to win a $75.00 gift certificate donated by Huck's. Contest closes July 3rd.

We'd like to thank Annelise for creating this amazing flag to honour the lost children recently discovered. This is one of the flags in our scavenger hunt.  Location Hint: Queen of the Butterflies

Membership Fiscal Year ends June 30th

We did not collect dues for Fiscal year 20/21 but we are collecting dues again.  Message us if you are not sure if you are current.  Membership is $35.00 a year or $100.00 for 3 years. Membership dues help us to continue to provide services.

We didn't collect last year, because we didn't think we'd be able to do much, but we did A LOT! Lots of contests and a really fun scavenger hunt. We've continued with E-Coli and water clarity testing and have resumed Phosphorus testing. We paid insurance and FOCA dues. We pay for a website domain name, hosting and security, but we do not pay anything to maintain the website. That's why our website is always current, it is volunteer time only. Now that things are opening up, we're organizing welcome baskets again. Let us know if you're new or you have a new neighbour.

The cost of the t-shirts was $20.00 tax included and $35.00 tax included for the hoodies, with the extra $5.00 a hoodie profit that paid for the set up fees for printing both designs and the extra enabled us to order prizes.  So if you missed ordering now is your opportunity to win a @bigbaldlake.calm hoodie in a custom royal blue colour.  You can choose between Large or Extra Large only

You can enter the random draw on our website and list what size you would prefer.  We'll be having draws throughout the rest of the year for hoodies.

Gypsy Moths

The Gypsy Moth caterpillars are starting to gather and pupate.
.
After they pupate, they will turn into their adult form and you will see the large white flightless female moths laying eggs on the trees and the small brown male moths flying around fertilizing the females.
.
What can you do? When you see pupae squish them or drown them in a pail of soapy water. When you see the female moths - squish them! You can also start scraping any egg masses that you see on the trees. For the male moths, you can lure and capture them in traps. Logan Tree Experts and BMR in Bobcaygeon have the pheromone traps.

How to make your own gypsy moth traps

We have found burlap traps very effective in catching both caterpillars and pupae. Some people have used power washers to knock caterpillars out of high spots on the trees. Wrapping tape (sticky side in) around trees and coating the tape in Vaseline (which stands up to heat and rain) prevents caterpillars from going back up the tree.
