A wondrous watery world

🌊

Welcome to July, and #biodiversity month here on the Atlas. We’ll be exploring a creeping, crawling, flying, swimming, seeding and sprouting world of plants, animals and insects galore – and the people and projects making sure they can continue to exist in all their technicolour glory. And we'll be meeting the nature champions at the forefront of defending Earth's biodiversity in our series of live online (and free!) Nature Talks.

The first in the series will be a chance to meet this week's FutureHero: indigenous leader Christine Smith-Martin. As Executive Director of the Coastal First Nations – Great Bear Initiative, Christine is protecting the world’s largest intact rainforest and doing critical work to defend the coastal communities who depend on it.

And now, join us as we leave dry land and dive into the ocean, to take a trip from New York Harbour to Indonesia’s coral reefs. All aboard!

USOcean Alliance is on a mission to democratise whale science – which, it turns out, is a snotty business. Using drones that fly through whales’ blowholes, the SnotBot is collecting valuable health data that can help protect our giant seafaring friends.
