Independent Retailer Month
Commissioners declared July 2021 as Independent Retailer Month in Hillsborough County, urging residents to support independent local businesses. These businesses are the backbone of the community, provide jobs and unique services, often pass legacies to other family members, and generate numerous other benefits.

Americans with Disabilities Act 31st Anniversary Awareness Day Proclaimed
In recognition of landmark legislation that improved the lives of millions of residents, the BOCC declared July 26, 2021, as Americans with Disabilities Act 31st Anniversary Awareness Day in Hillsborough County. Commissioners thanked the Hillsborough County Alliance for Citizens with Disabilities for enhancing local ADA compliance, raising awareness about equity, and strongly supporting people with disabilities. 
July Declared Parks and Recreation Month
Noting that Hillsborough County's parks and recreation programs build healthy, active lives and communities, help preserve, protect, and enhance the environment, and provide therapeutic recreation services, the BOCC declared July 2021 as Parks and Recreation Month.

County Invests in Community Redevelopment

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners approved up to $263,000 in reimbursable private-to-public capital improvement matching funds under the County’s Redevelopment Incentives for Pilot Projects Areas Program. The goal is to increase private investment in underutilized areas and create new employment opportunities.

Board Approves Major Initiative to Address Food Insecurities

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners approved up to $3.15 million in funding for Feeding Tampa Bay, East Tampa Business and Civic Association, Metropolitan Ministries, and United Food Bank of Plant City. The initiative will fund several food relief programs for Hillsborough County residents experiencing food insecurities due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

County Funds New Affordable Housing Complex

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners approved $5.8 million in funding for the University Area CDC to build Uptown Sky Apartments, a new affordable housing complex. The development will have 61 units that will be available to rent to very low- and low-income Hillsborough County residents.
