Malaga at a Glance
Malaga was the Spanish province with the highest population increase in 2020. The province registered 12,747 more inhabitants, of which 7,430 had non-Spanish nationality. The British led the migratory flow, with 5,050 citizens who settled in the province, according to the INE's Migration Statistics. The province had 1,696,252 inhabitants as of January 1, 2021 and the Spanish population stands at 47.4 million people.
The Digital Enterprise Show ( DES) is moving to Malaga for the next 5 years after 5 successful editions in Madrid. DES will be more experiential, more revolutionary and will collaborate in establishing the digital HUB of southern Europe in Spain.“ Alberto Planas, Director General DES. The City, Provincial and regional government signed the agreement with the organizers of DES on May 19 to support the next edition which will take place in Malaga on June 14-16, 2022.
Malaga was the first peninsular port to receive a cruise since the pandemic. On Tuesday, June 15, Malaga enthusiastically welcomed the Mein Schiff 2, from TUI Cruises with approximately 1,000 passengers. The concept of 'bubble cruise' guarantees the maximum safety of cruise passengers and residents by strictly following health protocols. 50 other cruise ships plan to dock in Malaga this year.
Vaccinations are going well. 24,325,902 people, 51.3% of the Spanish population, have their 1st shot and 33.5 % have the complete vaccine. As of Saturday, June 26, masks are not required in outdoor spaces, as long as you can maintain a personal distance of 1.5 meter. Wearing a mask remains mandatory indoors, on public transportation and for outdoor events or gatherings where people are closer than 1.5 meters.

Hybrid Events
The 10th edition of Transfiere, the European Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation took place in Malaga on April 14-15. More than 2,000 people, 200 speakers and 30 universities participated in a hybrid format of this event which brought together professors and industry experts to discuss AI, digital transformation, 4.0 industry, open research and innovation, and public procurement of innovative solutions.
