Webinar Reminder on Behalf of AccessGA: Living and Thriving with a Disability: First-Hand Accounts from Three Georgia Citizens - Wednesday, June 30th: 10:30AM to 11:45AM EST

This webinar is being offered through AccessGA, a joint initiative of the State ADA Coordinator's Office – Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission, and the Georgia Institute of Technology's Center for Inclusive Design & Innovation.

Please join us for this webinar as we hear from three Georgia citizens with varying disabilities sharing a definition of their disability, along with their own personal experiences as they have navigated throughout their day-to-day life, education, and employment settings. Far from being a weakness, people with disabilities often offer unique perspectives and understanding that can add tremendous value to a workplace and the people around them. In this presentation, you will be learning the definitions and various nuances of legal blindness, dyslexia, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Each of the presenters will be addressing barriers they have encountered in their own life (both attitudinal and environmental), along with specific tips and tools that have allowed them to make the necessary adaptations to function at an optimal level.
 

Presenter Bios

John Toles has been employed with Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation (CIDI) since 2016. He provides technical assistance and services through the CIDI Customer Support team to Higher Ed institutions across the country. He also develops and maintains several of CIDI internal and public-facing applications, and works closely with the ICT Accessibility team to provide web accessibility evaluations, technical assistance and training.

Nykema Lindsey has been with the College of Computing Outreach Department since 2018. Serving as an Educational Outreach Coordinator, she designs and oversees their annual 10-week summer camp.  The summer camp she has enjoyed assisting with the most is Intro 3D Design. Nykema is passionate about mental health awareness and advocacy. Nykema works to bring a better understanding of the signs and affects of mental health issues to families, friends and the wider community in order to help stop the stigma surrounding mental health. She believes that outreach is important because it allows us to engage and support the interest of the next generation and increase diversity within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through various engagement efforts she is involved in. She now plans to focus more on engaging students with various disabilities in hopes of increase their representation in STEM.

Johan Rempel oversees the UX/ICT Accessibility unit at Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation. He has extensive experience as an AT Specialist, Vision Rehabilitation Therapist, Orientation & Mobility Specialist, and Digital Accessibility Specialist. John oversees a number of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Accessibility initiatives, including the AccessGA initiative.
