JUNE 2021 NEWSLETTER

Along with our Annual Trails Day that we had in April, we had 15 amazing volunteers participate in our recent PORCA/PVTA Rutherford Trail Day. It was a great success and PHD got buffed from top to bottom as did The ‘stache. With the $500 grant we received from BC Outdoor Recreation Council for this BC Trail Day initiative we were able to purchase some new tools including more rakes for our popular public raking program, letting trail users buff up the trails a bit at a time. We would like to extend a big ‘Thank You’ to Sea to Sky Soils for helping with our parking and staging logistics. Keep you eyes open for more Trail Days to come!

RUTHERFORD TRAIL DAY

NICELY BUFFED TRAILS

We were sad to hear of the passing of PVTA founding member George Brooks earlier this June. As a senior, George was a strong advocate for the valley bottom routes and in particular the Valley Loop and Bathtub trails. The benches on Happy Trail and Bathtub Trail were his works. As George was always thinking of the future trail benefactors when working on the trails, have a walk or ride on the Valley Loop in his honour to remember him.

THE VALLEY LOOP

The PVTA would like to extend a huge ‘Thank You’ to Bill Stiles, our past President, and Brenda Williams, a past Director of Membership & Equestrian Rep. for their many years of commitment and contributions to the PVTA and our great trail system! Your hard work did not go unnoticed!

Keep an eye out for our upcoming AGM where we will be voting in a new president and looking for new board members. If you would like to help in maintaining our beautiful trail network, consider joining our team. We are currently looking for a secretary, someone with skills and interest in social media, marketing and fundraising, and representatives of user groups. If you have any questions or are interested in joining our Board, please send an email to contact@pembertontrails.com .

This spring, with Whistler/Blackcomb once again closing early due to the Pandemic we saw much more early traffic on the trails than we normally would. If you are from out of town, or in town, and use our trails whether it is to walk/ run/ride a bike or horse, please consider buying a membership to the PVTA & PORCA to help maintain our amazing trails.
