We have a superb array of excellent new 2019 white Burgundy releases to offer this week.
The wines are due to arrive here this Fall.
For 18 months we have wrestled with import tariffs and logistical tangles, and have been forced to hold-off purchases of many excellent French wines. We are pleased to be back in the hunt. It is, once again, a great time to be buying Burgundy!
White Burgundy in particular is enjoying a renaissance following the blight of 'premature-oxidation.' It may be early to state but it seems pretty clear that the quality conscious producers have righted the ship and consumers can buy these fantastic  and incomparable wines with confidence once again.

Michel Bouzereau 2019 Releases

Puligny Cailleret - $135
92-95 points - Burghound "An exuberantly spicy and elegant nose displays notes of essence of pear, white peach, acacia blossom and soft lemon-lime wisps. There is a bit more volume and richness to the medium-bodied flavors that aren't quite as mineral-driven but still quite stony, all wrapped in a beautifully long, balanced and equally complex finale. This is also superb." - Allen Meadows

Puligny Champs Gains - $110
91-93 points - Vinous "The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Caillerets 1er Cru had a tight, backward nose that struggled to follow in the footsteps of the Genevrières and Perrières. The palate is well balanced with lime and candied orange peel on the entry. A very effervescent Puligny, if just missing the nobility of other vintages that have crossed my palate over the years.  (Drink between 2023-2038)" - Neal Martin

Meursault Perrieres - $150
92-95 points - Burghound "A super-fresh nose freely offers up aromas of mineral reduction, pear, lemon-lime and an interesting hint of gardenia blossom, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to notice. Like the Genevrières, the medium weight flavors possess a gorgeous mouthfeel along with an almost pungent minerality that adds a sense of lift to the equally chiseled, bone-dry and powerful finale. This isn't quite as refined as the Genevrières but there is already more depth presented in a built-to-age package." - Allen Meadows

Meursault Genevrieres - $110
92-94 points - Burghound "A cooler and spicier nose reflects the natural exoticism of Genevrières with its jasmine tea, freshly sliced apple and plethora of citrus elements. The intense tension-filled middle weight flavors brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer an equally firm acid spine on the chiseled and strikingly long finale. I very much like the mouthfeel and this is seriously good." - Allen Meadows

Meursault Charmes Dessus- $110
92-94 points - Vinous "Meursault Les Charmes-Dessus 1er Cru White) The 2019 Meursault Les Charmes-Dessus 1er Cru has a slightly richer bouquet compared to Bouzereau’s other cuvées, presenting dried honey and orange pith scents plus honeysuckle and beeswax. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Harmonious and full of energy. The vibrant citrus/lime finish fans out wonderfully and the spicy aftertaste is one of the longest I have found on this particular cuvée. Superb.  (Drink between 2023-2040)" - Neal Martin

Meursault Blagny - $95
90-93 points - Burghound "An expressive and slightly riper nose conveys a vague hint of the exotic along with its aromas of both white and yellow orchard fruit and discreet floral wisps. There is excellent precision and intensity to the middle weight flavors that flash an abundance of mineral characters on the firm and very dry but not especially austere finale. This is also lovely though it's a wine that is going to require at least some forbearance." - Allen Meadows

Meursault Tessons- $85
90-93 points - Vinous "The 2019 Meursault Les Tessons has more amplitude than the Les Grands Charrons, featuring citrus lemon mixed with sea spray and oyster shell; touches of white peach and hazelnut emerge with time. The palate is very well balanced and very pretty on the entry, offering apricot, mango and spicy notes. This is more flattering than the Les Grands Charrons. The irresistible finish leaves touches of red cherry and spice lingering on the aftertaste. Superb. (Drink between 2023-2035)" - Neal Martin

Marc Morey 2019 New releases

Puligny Montrachet Les Pucelles- $130
93 points - Burghound "Here too there is a touch of reduction though in this case it's sufficiently minimal to allow glimpses of honeysuckle, citrus and apple to reveal themselves. On the palate the texture of the middle weight flavors is both finer and more seductive and this carries over to the balanced, classy and sneaky long finish. This is really quite lovely and worth your consideration." - Allen Meadows

Puligny Montrachet Les Referts- $110
92 points - Burghound "Firm reduction dominates the nose though the underlying fruit definitely seem ripe. The exuberantly fresh, intense and well-detailed medium-bodied plus flavors possess the intrinsic refinement of a Puligny 1er while delivering excellent length on the compact and youthfully austere finale." - Allen Meadows

Chassagne Montrachet Virondot - $95
92-94 points - Vinous "The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Virondot 1er Cru, one of the domaine’s strongest cuvées, was matured in 25% new oak. This is backward and a little broody at first, yet it is beautifully defined with its mineralité already tangible, those shallow soils on limestone can almost be smelled! The palate is very well balanced and packed full of energy, touches of sour lemon and orange rind, full of tension with a persistent finish. Just a fantastic Chassagne (Drink between 2023-2040)" - Neal Martin

Chassagne Montrachet Caillerets- $95
92 points - Burghound "More elegant if slightly exotic aromas include those of pretty floral, fennel, white and yellow peach plus a whiff of passion fruit. The middle weight flavors are not as concentrated but they're markedly finer and more mineral-driven while displaying focused power on the very dry finale. Note that this too is quite backward and a wine that will definitely need at least some forbearance." - Allen Meadows

Chassagne Montrachet Les Chenevottes - $90
92 points - Vinous
"The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru matured in 25% new oak and bottled in August. It has a well defined and energetic bouquet with plenty of yellow plum, red apple, touches of hazelnut and light orange blossom aromas. Like the domaine’s other 2019s, this is so pretty. The palate is very well balanced with orange rind and quince on the entry. Focused and almost "lilting" in quality, it gently fans out towards the finish. This is going to be very seductive. (Drink between 2022-2038)" - Neal Martin

Chassagne Montrachet Les Vergers - $90
92-94 points - Vinous "The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 1er Cru was not yet bottled and was taken from vat. Good intensity on the nose, a little more malic than the Chenevottes with a palpable Puligny-like steeliness. The palate is well balanced with impressive weight, good acidity and a welcome dab of lemongrass and ginger enlivens the finish. This has great potential. (Drink between 2023-2036)" - Neal Martin

Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot - $90
92 points - Burghound "Once again notes of petrol and matchstick can be found on the more floral suffused aromas of essence of white orchard fruit. There is more volume and richness if less refinement to the delicious medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a compact, serious and austere finish. This moderately backward well-made effort is going to require at least some patience." - Allen Meadows

Francois Mikulski 2019 Meursault Releases

Meursault Genevrieres - $175
93 points - Burghound "A naturally spicy and exotic nose freely offers up its array of fennel, jasmine tea, green apple and a plethora of citrus elements. The sleek and beautifully refined middle weight flavors exude evident minerality on the very dry, linear and balanced finale. This is even more tightly wound and should definitely benefit from at least some patience while possessing sufficient potential to repay 12 to 15 years of keeping." - Allen Meadows

Meursault Gouttes d'Or - $145
93 points - Burghound "Slightly riper aromas are comprised by notes of both white and yellow peach along with hints of lemon zest, hazelnut and pretty floral wisps. The exceptionally rich, palate soaking and powerful larger-scaled flavors coat the mouth with sappy dry extract that buffers the firm acid spine shaping the impressively lengthy finish. This is at once generously proportioned yet entirely serious as it will need at least a decade to realize its full potential." - Allen Meadows

Meursault Charmes - $145
92 points - Burghound "An ultra-fresh nose timidly displays its aromas of white peach, hazelnut and an array of citrus nuances that include lemon, lime and orange peel. There is once again fine volume to the solidly concentrated and extract rich flavors that possess a seductive mid-palate though the finish immediately tightens up thanks to plenty of lemon-tinged acidity. This is also sufficiently structured to reward at least a decade of cellaring." - Allen Meadows

Meursault Poruzots - $135
92 points - Burghound "Smoky and beautiful notes speak of mineral reduction, green fruit, apple and a discreet application of wood. There is excellent mid-palate density to the appealingly textured medium weight plus flavors that possess more evident power on the lemony, austere, structured and very dry finale. Like the Limozin, Poruzots always ages exceptionally well but is typically accessible after 5-ish years or so and this should follow that pattern." - Allen Meadows

Bruno Colin 2019 Releases

Chassagne Montrachet En Cailleret - 91-94 points Burghound - $135

Chavy Chouet 2019 Releases

Meursault Genevrieres - $90
93 points - Burghound "The natural exoticism of a fine Genevrières is present on the aromas of spiced tea, white peach, citrus confit, especially lemon rind and a whiff of quinine. There is both impressive volume and mid-palate concentration to the refined and vibrant medium weight flavors that also exude a lovely minerality on the more complex, lengthy and well-balanced finale. Excellent juice with promising development potential." - Allen Meadows

Meursault Charmes - $90
93 points - Burghound "Restrained aromas also flash citrus confit-like nuances on the mineral reduction, ripe essence of pear and acacia blossom scents. The sleek, intense and muscular flavors are blessed with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a sappy texture and also serves to buffer the slightly firmer acid spine shaping the bone-dry and highly complex finale. This is also terrific." - Allen Meadows

Puligny Montrachet Champs Gains - $90
92 points - Burghound "Here too the nose is cool, elegant and airy with its fresh array of various white fleshed fruit cut with a variety of citrus influences. The racy, intense and focused middle weight flavors culminate in a compact, linear and somewhat strict finale. While this promising effort clearly needs time to flesh out, it should be able to do that if allowed sufficient time." - Allen Meadows

Puligny Montrachet les Folatieres - $90
92 points - Burghound "Discreet hints of exotic dried yellow orchard fruit and mineral reduction precede punchy and attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that brim with minerality on the more refined but somewhat surprisingly, less complex finish. This will undoubtedly add depth with time in bottle but it's not clear that overall, it's necessary better than the Champ Gain." - Allen Meadows

St Aubin les Dents de Chien - $65
91 points - Burghound "More elegant and distinctly cooler aromas are derived from the essence of rose petal, white peach and lemon zest. The succulent, delicious and solidly voluminous flavors possess fine verve and details while exhibiting less austerity than usual on the sneaky long and balanced finale. Lovely and fashioned in an understated style." - Allen Meadows
