Welcome to the July Chamber Chatter newsletter -  a great source of announcements and information about our local businesses and organizations, and events to add to your calendars! 

The next Chamber What's Up Luncheon is Wednesday, July 21 featuring presentations from area students on their summer internships with local businesses. Plan to join us for lunch to encourage these youth that are working towards their future and supporting small businesses and organizations in the process! The event flyer will be available very soon! 


Rain has continued to delay the 2021 wheat harvest for Lincoln County farmers, but the Chamber membership wishes you all a safe and happy harvest when the combines can roll again!

Announcements from our Chamber members:

Central Kansas Mental Health Center is bringing a new Mental Health First Aid training to Lincoln Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the Finch Theatre. A grant from the Post Rock Community Foundation allows CKMHC to give the training for just $5 per person. The deadline to sign up is tomorrow Friday, July 2! Lincoln County Hospital has set a date to open the Sylvan Walk-In Clinic - July 24th at 8:30 a.m. They will close at noon on the 24th to host a free BBQ for the public (while supplies last) to celebrate the opening. They will have a drawing for those in attendance and hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and water, along with a few giveaways! After the 24th, the Sylvan Medical Clinic will be open for walk-ins on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Look for the Lincoln County Hospital booth at the Lincoln County Fair also (giveaways, free water, pamphlets, and a drawing!). 


Seirer's Clothing has Ladies Night Out coming up Thursday, July 8. Summer apparel & footwear will be on a 1,2,3 sale!



Lincoln Park Manor is hosting their 4th of July Celebration tonight Thursday, July 1st. The hotdog feed and activities will begin at 7 PM! Fireworks will begin at dark! Please note that ALL EVENTS WILL BE OUTDOORS! We will have some sprinklers for kiddos to cool off outside! We ask that you plan accordingly, as the public will not be allowed inside of the building! There will be a separate designated area for residents and their families. We ask that the general public respect these designated boundaries! Thank you for understanding and keeping our residents safe!



Stop by Soaring Arrow in their new location at 324 W. Lincoln Ave to see the new space and what's new! Open 11 am. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. 

  
 
Finch Theatre is showing Peter Rabbit 2 The Runaway July 2-4 - Fri & Sat 7 pm; Sun 3 pm.

The Finch is also hosting free summer matinees on Wednesday afternoons July 7 through August 4. Shows start at 2 p.m. and the concession stand will be open for walk-ins. Free soda and popcorn to the first 50 attendees at each movie. 




Lincoln Art Center's Music Festival is tomorrow Friday, July 2! Bring a potluck dish and a chair or blanket to enjoy the music and fireworks show!



The Lincoln Carnegie Library Summer Reading Program is ongoing through July and reading logs will be due by July 31. Programming in July will be focused on hands-on classes for ages 8 and up, with regular Thursday morning story times for all ages, but with a focus on pre-school age children.  



Free summer meals are available for children ages 1 – 18, Monday – Friday, June 1 – July 30. Sign up every day for this program online from the USD 298 webpage – Summer Grab & Go Form. Pick-up times are between 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School. If you have questions, contact the School Board Office at (785) 524-4436.



The Lincoln County Fair is July 14-17 at the fairgrounds in Sylvan Grove, and fair books, fair flyers and fair brochures are out! Some of the big events for the fair are the 4-H Project Sale, and the Round Robin Showmanship and there are many 4-H and open class categories to get involved with, including livestock, garden produce, baked and hand-made projects.  The Lincoln County Sylvan Grove Fair Association works hard all year to organize the entertainment and events for the Lincoln County Fair, including a Ranch Rodeo, Demolition Derby, Kids Pedal Tractor Pull, Archery Competitions, and much more! Networking & Learning Opportunities 


Friday, July 2 is K-State Research and Extension’s First Friday e-Call @ 9:30 am.  The topic is Supporting Farm Entrepreneurs.
 
Although agriculture is the largest economic driver in Kansas, consumers have seldom felt empowered to support local farmers. Join us on July 2 @ 9:30 for Supporting Farm EntrepreneursRick McNary, founder of the Facebook group Shop Kansas Farms, with 148K subscribers, proved people want local food and will tell what he has learned from that effort.  Deb Brown cofounder of SaveYour.Town will share stories of other farmers selling local foods.

  • The Lincoln County Tourism Coalition welcomes new members that have an interest in local tourism efforts. Contact Kathie Crispin at 785-524-5383 if you'd like to get involved. The Tourism Coalition is a committee of the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce. 
     
  • As always, please reach out to Kris at the Chamber office with your new job listings, and again when your jobs have been filled, we are happy to help get them listed on the Live Lincoln County job board, and other regional job boards as well, as a free service to all the area businesses, in partnership with the Lincoln County Economic Development Foundation. 
     
  • The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners has begun the process of creating a County Comprehensive Plan, and developing a common vision for the county and forming strategies for achieving goals. It is important for citizens to provide input on the plan. You can provide input by filling out the community survey. There are 34 questions related to agriculture, environment, and businesses. The deadline for responses is July 11th. The process for developing the County Comprehensive Plan is in partnership with the North Central Regional Planning Commission in Beloit.
