President John's Last Message

My thanks to all who attended the President's Reception and Changeover event on Monday evening, and also, of course, to all other members who were not able to be present. A bittersweet occasion for me, but I am very confident that Joy will lead the Club well in its 101st year, and that she will be well supported by all of you.

The end of my term coincides with the end of Ulf Ackeus' long association with our club. Ulf first joined Rotary in Melbourne in 1971 and was one of my many predecessors as club president, in 2007-2008.  Ulf has for some years been living in retirement in Upper Hutt, which has made it difficult for him to participate in our activities. We are sorry that his membership of our club will cease, but we understand, and we wish him well.
Dr Jon Johansson was a long time political scientist at Victoria University, specialising in political leadership, New Zealand and American politics. He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar to Georgetown, during President Obama's first year in office. He has published books on both domestic and American politics. In 2017 he became Chief of Staff to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters. Jon is now working on strategy and government relations for Wellington communications company Acumen.

5 July, 17th Floor, James Cook Hotel
12.30 - 1.30 pm

There is no need to register for attendance.
If you can't do your meeting duty, we need you to find a replacement

If you need a substitute, please arrange one yourself. As a last resort, ask the President, the President-Elect (as Chair of the Club Services Committee) or the administrator to find one. Please be sparing in using this option!

Very Enjoyable Club Changeover Cocktail Function

Despite Level 2 restrictions, we all had an excellent evening and there was a sense of power in just waving a hand to get more drinks! Interesting speech from Alan Bollard and Joy Tracey gave us a stimulating sense of the club in 2021-22. It was a nice touch that we were inducting a new member into the club - Bridgette Morten, who is a lawyer with Franks Ogilvie.

Nick Hurley and Marion Eades were awarded Paul Harris Fellows by District Governor, Gillian Jones & Rhys Barlow was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by President John McKinnon.

Photos of the Event are currently being processed and a link will be put up in our next Newsletter.
