Pool Rescue 

Despite a disappointing early finish to the 2021 SunSmart WA Pool Rescue Championships, which saw the cancellation of yesterday afternoon's relay events as COVID-19 restrictions came into place, we still saw plenty of action packed racing over the weekend!

Congratulations to Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club WA who were crowned 2021 Champion Club, finishing with a total of 421 points ahead of defending champions Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club in 2nd on 308 points, and Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club rounding out the podium in 3rd with 258 points!

Thank you to all officials and volunteers who gave up their time over the weekend to deliver a fantastic event!

Constitution Committee

We are looking for 2 more people to join our constitution committee for the 2021/22 season. 

This committee shall interpret the provisions of this Constitution and its By-Laws and shall recommend such amendments as it deems necessary to maintain the proper function of the Constitution.

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED FROM PATROL MEMBERS

All members of 2020/21 season you will receive a free patrol shirt if you patrolled last season. Tthis will only be issued through your members portal account.

This shirt is going to have different sponsors on it and will only be given to last seasons patrolling members. It will take some of the financial pressure from the club as well.

Youth News

State Pool Rescue
Congratulations to all those involved in the State Poole Rescue Competition.  Well done to all the Sorrento competitors whose efforts saw Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club crowned 2021 Champion Club.  It was great to see Nipper, Youth and Senior athletes competing together for the club.

Thanks to all those who supported the event as Coaches, Age Managers, Officials,  Pool Setters, Time Keepers and Supporters.

Planning times for SRC and Bronze courses for Sept-Oct 2021 School Holidays.

SRC:  Monday 27th Sept to Saturday 2nd Oct (first week of school holidays)

Bronze:  Monday 4th Oct to Saturday 9th Oct.  (second week of school holidays)

More detailed timings will be available closer to the course dates.  Please register your interest with Jess ASAP to facilitate planning for trainers.

2021 / 2022 Youth Committee
Once we get through  this current COVID lockdown and current restrictions, we will have a meeting of those parents who want to be part of the Youth Committee for the 2021 / 22 Season.  All are welcome to support, and this coming season promises to be an exciting one with the Aussies scheduled for Perth in April 2022.  This is a great way to get to know not only the youth, but other club members as well.  All levels of experience and time availability are welcome.  If you are interested in supporting, please drop an email to greg.belmont@gmail.com  and I will make sure you are invited to the Youth Committee season kick off.

Woodside Nippers

Well what a bumper weekend for all our Sorrento Nippers that  were able to compete for the mighty green machine over the weekend at the State Pool Rescue Championship at the Joondalup Arena.

Congratulations to all our awesome athletes on being part of the team that won our first Pool Rescue Championship in our history of the club. We are all super proud of your achievement!

I’d like to make mention of our Youth, Open and Masters athletes that also represented the club and  competed for Sorrento over the weekend, it was fantastic the way you inspired our nippers to have a go!

Putting a team like this together is a huge undertaking and I can’t thank Andrew and the Ridley family enough for the effort  sacrifice and commitment to our pool rescue team you put in, along with our other  coaches Kaci, Fiona and Chris.

I’d like to thank our team managers Jeff Baxter and Rick Ogden along with Sally, Amanda and Rhian for helping in Marshalling Nippers for events. I’d also like to thank our pool setters Dave Tasker, Muzz Geneff and Jeff Overton and anyone else I may of missed that helped by getting wet over the weekend. 

Again Sorrento parents came to the rescue in supporting the event by volunteering over and above what our club was required to do in timing lanes. There are too many of you to mention but thank you to all the parents that put up their hands to get the event running.

One of the officials wanted me to pass on their thanks to all our volunteers and remarked that’s why you are  the Woodside Nipper club of the Year!!

Due to lockdown restrictions board Training on Wednesday night is cancelled. At this stage Saturday morning session is still on but please keep an eye on Sorrento Junior facebook  page for any changes or updates. A Pool Rescue after States party will be organized once restrictions are lifted.
