We're each at the beginning of something. Even as we reflect on the past triennium, we do it in the now and with an eye on the future. We're moving towards our goals - - reaching them and then setting them higher as we keep going.
It is time to turn the page and begin our next chapter . . . and a new biennium! As we begin, we give pause to reflect back on the past triennium in relation to our strategic goals:
• To Grow the Organization
• To Increase Member Engagement
• To Advance Organizational Effectiveness
And, to affirm that Delta Zeta is a global women’s organization whose shared values truly inspire action and impact lives.
Some may have used the word virtual to describe our experience, but every moment was real; every new thing learned moved us forward. Together at our 54th National Convention, we moved forward by turning the page to start our next chapter in the Delta Zeta story with confident and empowered Leading Ladies.
To all our Convention attendees, we thank you for giving graciously of your time this weekend to attend this milestone in our history.

Our August selection to read is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?
Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jump start her career. Sounds like a fun read filled with Old Hollywood stories.
Our July book was Where the Crawdads Sing. Even if you have not read the book you are invited to join us for the discussion on August 3. Our monthly book is chosen based on conversation starting story lines. The DZ book club virtual zoom event to discuss Where the Crawdads Sing will be August 3 at 7pm. We always meet the first Tuesday of the month. Click link to join discussion.https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87052038615Passcode is: DZ

Congratulations to Karen Lange Achoth Award Recepient
At our 2021 Virtual Delta Zeta National Convention, Karen Lange was awarded the Achoth Award for her long term service to the Phoenix Delta Zeta Alumnae Chapter. The Chapter nominated Karen for the 2020 Convention which was cancelled. We only wish Karen was still with us to enjoy this honor with us.
The Achoth Award was passed to Delta Zeta from Phi Omega Pi at the time of our merger in 1948. It shall be given to specially selected alumnae who have demonstrated, by long and faithful service, their continued loyalty to Delta Zeta particularly in their local communities. The Achoth Awards are given each convention year to alumnae who have worked in a volunteer capacity a minimum of 15 years after college.
Karen is pictured in the center at another National Convention in Tucson 2014. On Karen's right is Sandi Bailey who also received the Achoth Award this year at Convention. Sandi spends part of her time in Tucson, so we have gotten to know her as well. Congratulations to both women. On the left is Past National President,Jeanine Petersen Triplett. The photo was taken at the Alumnae Luncheon where Golden Roses including Karen and Sandi were honored.
This is a very difficult note to write to you, and shy of writing each one of you, as there is so much to say to all of you. All of you were so very cherished by our Mom, Karen Lange. She was so very proud to be a DZ and treasured her sisterhood and DZ friendships. She loved being involved, being Corresponding Secretary for so many years (decades really) and always looked forward to every event she could attend! All the Christmas Teas, luncheons, meetings, get togethers, phone calls and PPA Banquets were times where she always spoke fondly of and always with a smile. We Karen's daughters (Kay, Jan, Sue & Ann) appreciate all that helped our Mom get to and from events, cared about her and helped with her well-being over the years and truly and above all being such terrific friends with our Mom. All four of us admired our Mom's friendships with you all and her devotion to Delta Zeta.
We want to say 'thank you' for the very generous donation to the DZ Foundation made in Mom's honor. This was all very kind of you. We will always hold our Mom's sisterhood with DZ in our hearts and speak to it in high regard. We also are all so grateful our Mom brought us into her DZ Sisterhood, such as going to Christmas Teas, and will hold the memories dearly.
Please know that our Mom loved you all and always held you close to her heart. With much love, Karen's daughters,
Sue Pickles, Kay Lange-Miley, Jan Mulbeneaux and Ann Nelson.

DZ National Convention History
Delta Zeta's first National Convention was in 1907. Please click the link to learn the
history of some of our other National Conventions.
The Delta Zeta Alumnae Chapter will again be sending good wishes and a small gift to the Pi Zetas moving into the Greek Leadership Village Delta Zeta House starting August 1. The cute little keychains were a big hit last year and although they aren't exactly the same, the DZ monogram will make it even more special.
The girls will soon be busy moving in and getting ready for recruitment. As of now, we are not sure what restrictions will be in place as far as visitors to the house and other previous rules but we will be compiling guidelines to insure the safety of all the women. Classes will return to 'in person' this Fall.
Sisterhood
We are thankful for our lifelong sisterhood and love that is ever steadfast! Dog Days of Summer
The month of August is often referred to as the "dog days of summer" but not
because of pet pooches.
It has to do with the star Sirius, also known as the dog star, which rose at
the same time as sunrise
during the month of August in ancient Roman times.
