Sac State campus police officer seen kneeling on a man in video

Recently, a cyclist was arrested on campus by a Sac State officer. In a video taken by a witness, the officer can be seen kneeling on the man during the arrest. According to The Sacramento Bee, an officer was sent out on reports of bikers ripping down a sign and using it to do tricks.

In response to the incident, the university said in an official statement Thursday that this event will be subjected to a use of force review to keep with departmental policy. The university also said that the officer did not kneel on the cyclist's neck, instead his upper back.

Black Sac State community, therapist discuss psychological impacts of police brutality
Ever since May 25, 2020, when George Floyd was murdered by now-convicted police officer Derek Chauvin, the conversation about police interactions with Black people has been prevalent in the U.S., impacting some Black Americans’ mental health due to the constant coverage of police brutality.

The State Hornet spoke with Black Sacramento State students about how police brutality and the media coverage reporting it has impacted their mental health and compiled mental health services available for students at Sac State and in Sacramento.
