Family/Ministry Update: We are grateful to report to you as our beloved supporters once again! We give thanks to God for His merciful provision through your shared love of Christ’s global mission. Since our previous newsletter from last month, life in Taiwan for us has gone by largely unchanged. We continue to chip away at language learning every day, homeschool our boys, and build upon gospel relationships with anyone and everyone we can during this persistent, hindering COVID lockdown.
Lockdown Persists: Taiwan continues to battle the spread of the virus. By extending the same level 3 restrictions (no indoor gatherings > 5) for a month longer, the number of newly reported cases have decreased. However, the virus is still at large on this island of 24 million people. Because Taiwan has only a very limited supply of vaccines, the government prioritizes jabs for high-risk individuals and frontline medical personnel. Even after receiving vaccine donations from America and Japan, the general public still does not have access to the vaccine.
To complicate matters, on June 26th, there was an outbreak of the “Delta variant” virus in the southern part of Taiwan. The 8,000 residents have been ordered to stay in their home for three (3) days, and the county government has imposed an immediate rapid screen of all residents in the area.
Faith in Drought: We are hopeful that the lockdown situation will ease as things improve with time. We can attest that there are times in life and ministry when it seems like we are in a drought—little or no fruit for our labors. But just as our God has swiftly ended Taiwan’s agricultural drought with a deluge of rain, so God can bring forth a bountiful spiritual harvest in due season. We shall reap if we faint not.
