Latest News in Healthtech Innovation

Salford Care introduces a new remote monitoring app for heart failure patients. The tech includes a smartphone app that is designed by Dignio and is currently being used by teams in Salford to remotely monitor heart failure patients who may have received reduced check-ups during the COVID-19 pandemic. The app is designed so that patients can be monitored from their home and self-manage some of their care, with an overall aim to reduce future hospital admissions.

On June 22, 2021, conversationHEALTH released new updates and additions to their SaaS platform, their conversational AI platform. The new features include new machine learning based two-tier adverse event and product complaint handling, and just-in-time gating as well as customizable gating disclaimers. These features are added to the suite of customer configurations that help Life Sciences companies better adapt the platform to specific regional requirements or lines of business needs.

Digital innovation - 3D printing of human body parts to improve performance, reduce infection

A new 3D printing method from researchers at the University of Nottingham can improve performance and bacterial resistance. The team has discovered how to tailor-make artificial body parts and other medical devices with built-in functionality that offers better shape and durability, all while removing the risk of bacterial infection at the same time. Most mass produced medical devices fail to completely meet the unique needs of users and single-material 3D printed methods have many design limitations. The team made for the first time a multi-material 3D-print technique, and they demonstrate that it is possible to combine complex functions within one customized healthcare device to enhance patient wellbeing.

Fundraising - leading health tech innovators raising capital

The Boston, USA-based startup, NuvoAir, raises $12 million in a Series A funding led by London-based AlbionVC. NuvoAir uses an app to listen to your night-time coughing and other health data to inform people with ongoing respiratory illnesses and help them manage their health.

"Reasons to be cheerful, Part 3:"

Thermo Fisher Scientific has launched a new CE-IVD-marked COVID-19 test that can expand the range of current and future mutations. The kit uses an assay design which then compensates for current and emerging variants by using eight total targets across three genomic regions of the virus. This then helps ensure that the test provides accurate results even as the virus continues to mutate.
