Dr. Yanbin Yin was featured in Nebraska Today. The article discussed his research developing, "...computational models and informatics tools to identify carbohydrate-active enzymes — CAZymes — in the gut microbiome that can build, modify and break down various complex carbohydrates." On June 24th, the Department honored Dr. Randy Wehling for his 37 years of service during his retirement reception. The reception was held in the Kewpie Room. Dr. Wehling served numerous roles in the Department, including instructor, interim department head and undergraduate advisor. Dr. Wehling was presented with a certificate and pin. UNL Dairy Store ice cream was served.
Dr. Jennifer Clarke, FDST faculty member, was announced as one of three finalists for the next associate vice chancellor and dean of graduate education at University of Nebraska- Lincoln. The dean is responsible for the administration of academic support for more than 4,000 graduate students in approximately 170 graduate degree and certificate programs. 
 
Dr. Clarke is also the lead researcher for the Agricultural Genome to Phenome Initiative which recently received an additional $960,000 from the  U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute for Food and Agriculture to expand it program. "The initiative, which also includes researchers from the University of Arizona and the University of Idaho, aims to increase understanding of how genetic code affects physical and behavioral traits — or phenotypes — in crops and livestock. Additionally, the initiative aims to standardize and streamline how phenomic information is collected and shared by agronomists, researchers and others."

Congratulations to Ph.D. graduate student Car Reen Kok on being named as a recipient of the 2021 Early Career Researcher award from the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP). The R&D Technicican I will, Assist in development of new products, Aid in making bench samples (weighing, mixing, baking, shipping, etc.), Recording product specifications for mixing, make up, baking and final product, become familiar with ingredients and how they function in each formula, and complete and maintain records as applicable, including lot tracking program.
