Hi <<First Name *>>,

If you have regular digestive issues, like excessive gas, constipation, or diarrhea there is a good chance that the issue stems from problems in your microbiome.     Research has shown that healthy bacteria can help improve digestion and prevent inflammation, improve mental health (gut-mind connection) and even improve your skin (gut skin-axis).

Of course, each body is different, but the scientists agree, that a healthy gut leads to a healthy body.

You already know many of the benefits of a healthy microbiome, but how can you improve your gut health?

Enzymes in your saliva start breaking down complex foods into smaller particles so that nutrients can be more easily absorbed by your body.  Lifestyle and age can contribute to a decrease in enzyme production.  As you get older, or if you have some food intolerances, there are digestive enzyme supplements that can aid in digestion.

Probiotics can help ensure that you have the right balance of good bacteria to keep your gut microbiota healthy.   Taking supplements or eating certain foods, like yogurt, kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut, dark chocolate, is a great way to boost the good bacteria in your gut.

Prebiotic fiber is indigestible food, that ferments in the gut and feeds the beneficial bacteria allowing the microbiota to flourish.  Prebiotic fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, and legumes and provides nutrients to the bacteria that support healthy digestion and immune function.

Foods that are high in prebiotic fiber include:

  • legumes, beans, and peas
  • oats
  • bananas
  • berries
  • asparagus
  • dandelion greens
  • garlic
  • leeks
  • onions

The Bottom Line

A balanced microbiome is important for many aspects of your health. Eat plenty of prebiotic and probiotic foods, as they will help promote the most ideal balance between good and bad gut bacteria.
