June has been busy. I was honored to be invited to speak at Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services, and this was also the month that we hosted our free 16-hour trauma transport training workshop. It was a fabulous event, and felt really positive to be able to connect with people and offer in-person training once again.
Thanks to all who attended.
Monthly Blog Round-Up
The following is a round-up of our monthly blogs in case you missed any on our social media pages.
Overcoming the Drama Triangle
The Drama Triangle was first described in the 1960s by Dr. Stephen Karpman to explain the different roles people assume in interpersonal relationships, particularly within areas of dispute, conflict, or “drama.”[1] The three roles, Victim, Rescuer, and Persecutor, are driven by anxiety and keep the individual absorbed in the drama rather than allowing for personal growth and flourishing of relationships.
Seeking treatment for substance abuse can be intimidating. People are likely to be concerned about abandoning their loved ones, judgment from others, leaving their jobs or responsibilities, and cost. Among the many aspects that need to be considered and the variety of decisions that must be made, one of the most significant is the length of the treatment program.
Six Ways to Support the Mental Health of Your LGBTQ Loved Ones
June is Pride month. Normally a time of community celebration to show the world the importance of embracing the LGBTQ movement and promoting equality for all, this year, the restrictions placed upon all of us due to the pandemic will mean that many celebrations will be subdued or, in many cases, postponed.
Love is deeply important to all of us and pervades every aspect of our lives through romance, family, friendships, music, and works of art. Love has a profound effect on our mental and physical states, as we are often consumed by the powerful experience of falling in love or the suffocating pain of a broken heart or bereavement. The loss or failure of love can lead to mental disorders, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and serious physical illness.
This month, it gives us great pleasure to introduce another fabulous member of the Heather R. Hayes team. Lisa Coyro, Interventionist and Clinical Case Manager, working with clients and families throughout their journey with us.
