Alumnus Spotlight: Mijail Santos Luján

Mijail Santos Luján graduated with his Master's in Public Policy from the National University of Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in 2018. Currently, he serves as the Digital Communications Team Lead at the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH), hosted by the World Health Organization. In his role, Santos helps stakeholders leverage the power of networks through technology, to bring about changes in policy, financing, and services for women, children and adolescents.

Through his work at PMNCH, Santos concedes that he is “biased towards technology.” At the same time, he remains cognisant that his greatest responsibility is not only to champion innovation, but also to ensure access to information and services. "My work is not about reinventing the wheel—it’s about adapting the wheel so that we can be more efficient, and all our partners can access our platform, even if they don’t have the latest technologies or high Internet bandwidth."

Previous to his position at PMNCH, Santos served as the Global Head of Social Impact at The Stakeholder Company (TSC) in Singapore, where he monitored issues and global sentiment through an AI-driven sensing system.

Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy

The National University of Singapore, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKY) was established in 2004 with the mission to educate and inspire current and future generations of leaders to raise the standards of governance in Asia, improve the lives of its people and contribute to the transformation of the region.

With over 400 students spanning 80 countries, the LKY School is one of the most international public policy schools in the world. The School’s Asian focus allows students to experience public policy education in a distinctively global environment.

The School curriculum spans across multiple disciplines and is complemented with case studies and a problem-based learning approach. Students from the LKY School can expect to extend their learning well beyond the walls of the classroom, and to benefit from strong empirical evidence and contextual narratives that emphasize Asian and international dimensions.
