Upsidedowns Charity Pub Quiz

Volunteers Award

Last week during National Volunteer week, Kathryn Sadgrove was honoured with the Val Sturgess National Volunteer Award by the New Zealand Down Syndrome Association (NZDSA). Read more here» 

Abuse in Care Hui

The Royal Commission is investigating historic abuse and neglect in state and faith-based care. They have been hearing from disabled people, and people within the sector about their experiences. They are hosting a hui for people who identify as part of the learning disability, neurodiverse and cognitive impairment community and their supporters.  
When: 6 July 
Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm 
Where:  Glenfield Community Centre, Corner of Bentley Avenue and Glenfield Road, Glenfield, Auckland

Makaton Course

Makaton is a communication programme, specially designed to help children and adults with communication and learning difficulties to better understand our speech and develop their own communication skills. They are hosting a Tutor Training course in October in Auckland. Please register your interest here» 

Project Mobilise Workshops

Project Mobilise is holding workshops to understand the stories that surround disability -  the ideas, beliefs, and assumptions held by New Zealanders about disabled people. They aim to create a nationwide media campaign to disrupt harmful narratives and therefore help New Zealanders think differently about disability.

ADSA Social Clubs


Will someone you know with Down syndrome be turning 11 years old soon? If so, they might like to join our Junior Social Club. Recreate NZ run our social clubs and they come up with lots of fun activities and adventures each month. This brings about plenty of opportunities for our young people to make new friends and gain some independence. We also have an Adult's Social Club for our members who are aged 18+. Detailed information, as well as online sign-up forms are on our website»

  • 7 August (5:30pm to 9:30pm): ADSA & Recreate Ball at The Rydges Formosa Resort - If you are in either the ADSA junior or adult social club and want to go, don't miss out – send your RSVP to grace@recreate.org.nz. Tickets cost $40 and this includes dinner and non-alcoholic drinks.
