Opinion

Hello <<First Name>>,

Matt TrammellThe San Angelo LIVE! team went on an adventure over the past two days and headed to the Rio Grande Valley to find out the truths about Biden's Border Crisis.

As many of our audience knows, San Angelo LIVE! Publisher Joe Hyde is a veteran Air Force pilot and currently owns a Mooney M-20C named "Speedy." We took the Mooney from the San Angelo Regional Airport to the McAllen International Airport on Jun. 29.

Tuesday night, around the time of take off, thunderstorms rolled across the Concho Valley delaying the time of departure to around 7:30 p.m. After hours of dodging thunderstorms we landed at around 10:30 p.m.

The flight path there and back
Above: The flight path there (L) and back (R).

After a smooth landing, the team caught a Lyft, went to the Hotel, and crashed for the night.

The following morning Joe and I went to the the Texas DPS headquarters in Weslaco. After waiting for around an hour, buses hauled us to the border in Pharr where we were able to see the unfinished portion of the wall.

At around 10:30 a.m. we arrived at the border. I then went live from the San Angelo LIVE! Facebook page. To watch the live stream, see the video here.

Following the live stream, the Secret Service allowed us to go set up equipment for the governor's border update. We were able to get front row seats for the show.

Above: Front row for Gov. Abbott's press conference with former President Donald Trump

Then the Trump Train arrived. A large number of Congressmen and the who's who of the Republican Party were there including Congressmen August Pfluger and Jody Arrington who we interviewed. Those interviews will be released very soon.

Prior to their arrival at the wall, Trump and Abbott held a conference with a number of local officials and heard their complaints about the illegal alien invasion. To see the conference click: Watch: Abbott and Trump Attend Border Security Briefing

They then went to the wall and held another event. This was more of a rally of Republicans who were excited to see the Don and Abbott. During the event Trump gave a speech calling out not only President Biden but also Vice President Kamala Harris for their lack of effort on the Border Crisis. My favorite part of the speech was when the former President said "If he would have only went to the beach following inauguration and left everything alone then we wouldn't be here now." For the full interview see: WATCH: Donald Trump and Governor Greg Abbott Visit the Real Border

To end the speech, the only opposition voice heard at the border, CNN correspondent Jim Acosta, yelled at Trump from the crowd asking if he would ever apologize for the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capital. The question was overpowered by a thunder of boos.

Following the speech we high tailed it back to the DPS office and caught a Lyft back to the airport. Before getting to the airport we stopped at a "Taco Palenque" and grabbed the best drive thru Mexican food I've had to date.

We then got back in the Mooney and headed back. We touched down at KSJT at 8:45 p.m. Check out the video below for a full wrap up of the adventure:

Donald Trump visits Texas to tour "unfinished border wall" on U.S. Mexico border with Gov. Greg Abbott "Former President Donald Trump will visit Texas on Wednesday to tour parts of the U.S.-Mexico border, where Gov. Greg Abbott has vowed to build a border wall — picking up on the unfulfilled promise first pushed by Trump during his presidential campaign. Trump’s visit comes as Republicans continue to hammer President Joe Biden’s administration for an increase in apprehensions at the border. There were 180,034 apprehensions last month at the U.S.-Mexico border, and 40% of those turned back had previously crossed. That’s compared to fewer than 25,000 in late 2020, according to data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. During the Trump administration, the highest recorded number of monthly apprehensions was nearly 150,000." More at Texas Tribune

At least 6 teens killed by gun violence this month in Tarrant County "He was just a teenager. Police say the young man shot and killed in an apartment breezeway on Weiler Boulevard in east Fort Worth was only 16 years old. He was found Monday night with multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said. The boy is not just Fort Worth's latest homicide victim, he's also at least the sixth teenager to die of gun violence in Tarrant County this month alone." More at WFAA

North Texas inmate faces execution after killing 3 family members "A Texas inmate faces execution on Wednesday after killing his pregnant wife, 5-year-old daughter and father-in-law more than a decade ago in what prosecutors called a brutal and senseless attack. Authorities say John Hummel stabbed his wife, Joy Hummel, more than thirty times in December 2009. He then used a baseball bat to beat to death his daughter, Jodi Hummel, and his 57-year-old father-in-law, Clyde Bedford, who used a wheelchair. He then set their home on fire in Kennedale, a Fort Worth suburb." More at KDFW

NCAA puts TCU basketball on probation, punishes ex-assistant "The NCAA put the TCU men's basketball program on three years' probation Tuesday and punished a former assistant coach it accused of accepting $6,000 from an aspiring sports agent and then lying to the school about it. The school avoided scholarship reductions and limits on recruiting imposed on other programs in a federal corruption case that has ensnared several big-name schools. TCU was fined $5,000 and 1% of its men's basketball budget." More at MySanAntonio

Austin ISD teacher killed in hiking accident in El Paso "An Austin teacher has died after being swept away by flood waters while hiking in El Paso, according to emergency officials in the area. "Depund the police"

If you meant "defund" the police, which is a bad name, that means take funding from them and put it into mental health services and other areas with people that have (way) more expertise in certain situations where police almost always make things worse. There is no reason a trigger happy cop needs to show up at a situation where someone is having a mental breakdown. It's the republicans that have told people this means "abolish police" which in it's original form does not.

"Sad part is he dems have there heads so far up there back sides about Trump and every word that think he says, hear he says"

Reminds me about right after trump was elected and republicans couldn't stop talking about Obama. But unlike Obama, trump is still campaigning and an active political figure.

When people say "bankrupt the country" you know that they don't know how the financial system works. Trump did way more damage to the debt than Obama did anyway.

Cops aren't innocent though. They deprive people of rights, harass, assault, and murder innocent citizens everyday. And when a "good" cop decides to inform the police department of another officer doing something wrong they are the ones who get reprimanded, usually fired, it's their culture plain and simple.

Good job, both on the police department for holding their officers accountable, and for salive actually reporting on it (although I think Sonia is the only respectable reporter at salive.) With the murdering cop Derek Chauvin in prison, we should see more and more police held accountable for their crimes, which occurs on a daily basis. If there was any other group in America that murdered, assaulted, harassed and deprived citizens of rights as much as cops do we would call them a gang.
