Achieving Carbon Neutrality: One Goal, Many Pathways

A LEVEL3 collaboration with Deloitte Singapore

The expert panellists, Junice Yeo, Executive Director of Eco-Business and Tony Á Verb, Co-Founder of Carbonless Asia looked at the various pathways business leaders can take to reach their carbon neutrality goals. In the vibrant discussion, they covered:

•  The need for reliable and and efficient systems that track carbon emissions, to prevent double-counting and to close the gap in carbon traceability for manufacturing and supply chain companies;
How the awareness of greenwashing can turn into collaborative opportunities, as corporations are held accountable to their goals; and
Various sustainable reporting methods and emission disclosures that measure current impacts and indirect emissions (both upstream and downstream).

To share Junice's poignant quote at the end of this discussion: "Collective movements do work if we believe in the same thing."

A Seat at the Table with Zuellig Pharma

A LEVEL3 collaboration with Zuellig Pharma

Zuellig Pharma, Asia's leading healthcare services provider, utilises data to address issues around supply chain traceability and drug counterfeiting. At this session, they shared interesting insights with a select group of LEVEL3 startup founders:

•  Ignoring supply chain traceability can be costly, as global scrutiny from authorities increase and inefficiencies erode margins. At the same time, supply chain visibility can become a commercial asset for a brand.
•  Zuellig Pharma's eZTracker solution addresses problems in information exchange: a blockchain network to allow information sharing, a digital ID to tag activity to identity, and a mobile interface for users to access the information.

Case studies, including a planned deployment of COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines, can be found in the deck here.

Digital Learning Series: Smallholder AgriTech Southeast Asia Landscape 2021

A Padang collaboration with Grow Asia (a World Ecoonomic Forum platform)

In this year’s edition of the Landscape, we expanded its scope to include startups that work with organisations that in turn positively impact smallholders. We went deeper into Farmer Advisory by identifying six key features (pest and disease diagnostics, satellite-data analytics, digital records and crop planning, community platforms, information platforms, and IoT). We also made three predictions for the sector:

•  Corporates in the agribusiness space will play a significant role in driving digital adoption among smallholders.
•  Many startups now have sustainability as part of their impact statement, but more with sustainability as their core driver will emerge.
•  E-commerce trends for farmers to purchase inputs and sell their produce continues to diverge. A regional inputs marketplace remains a challenging proposition given the current state of infrastructure, and farmers still prefer to buy through trusted contacts.

Don't How to Lead in the Stakeholder Era: Focus on purpose and people. The profits will follow.

With the world facing multifaceted crises in public health, the economy, race, the environment, and geopolitical relations, there is a growing realisation that business and society cannot thrive if employees, customers, and communities are not healthy; if our planet is on fire; and if our society is fractured. More and more leaders believe that creating a better and sustainable future requires corporations to serve all their stakeholders — not just their investors — in a harmonious fashion.

To make this transition, leaders need to evolve how they think about their mission and how they lead. By embracing a declaration of interdependence, a leader should pursue a noble purpose, be ready to put people at the centre of it, and dedicate to creating an environment where every employee can blossom. This is how business can be a force for good and do well by doing good.
