It’s another week of summer fun in York and the surrounding area, with live screenings of Wimbledon, theatre and music to get stuck into. Watch this space for news on our Summer of Sport activities launching on 9 July.  

When spending time in York please be considerate, and practise hands, face space to keep yourself and others safe.

Wimbledon at Coppergate 
Until 11 Jul 

With the grass on centre court now mown ready for the first matches of Wimbledon 2021, York’s Coppergate Centre is marking the return of the world’s favourite tennis tournament with free live screenings of key matches in St Mary’s Square, and a tennis-themed Brollywalk down Coppergate Walk. 

Screenings will be on from 12 noon daily in accordance with match schedules.

The Snail and the Whale

Join an adventurous young girl and her seafaring father as they reimagine the story of a tiny snail's incredible trip around the world, inspired by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's much-loved picture book. Longing to see the world, a tiny sea snail hitches a lift on the tail of a great big, grey-blue humpback whale.

Tales from the Great Wood

Written and directed by Kate Bramley, starring Richard Kay and Danny Mellor. Listen! Can you hear the whispering in the trees? The wood is full of stories. Hetty the hare is investigating because someone is missing. To unravel a tall tale, that stretches from end to end of The Great Wood, Hetty realises that every creature- no matter how small - can have a huge part to play in the world of the forest.

Richard III: Coming Home 
09 Jul - 31 Oct  

The world-famous late 16th century portrait of Richard III will go on display at the Yorkshire Museum as part of a new display, in summer 2021. The loan to the Yorkshire Museum is part of the National Portrait Gallery’s nation-wide COMING HOME project, which sees the Gallery sending portraits of iconic individuals to places they are closely associated with.

York Maze

York Maze will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Mr. Men Little Miss for their 2021 maze design for the summer season opening on 17 July. This award winning, seasonal attraction offers the whole family an “a-mazing” day out. Enjoy an action packed, fun filled day in the country, exploring your way round the giant maze and enjoying over 20 other exciting rides, shows and attractions.
