What does this word mean to us? Normally we will say this means agreement or contract as stated even in the above Strong’s definition yet this is not exactly what our Hebrew brothers and sisters would have seen and understood about the agreement being made. The word covenant was actually a statement of who was making the agreement reliable.
As we see going all the way back to Noah this word appears, and again as we look at the ancient Hebrew pictographs (The letters and words of the Hebrew language), something emerges that we as English writing and speaking people don’t get from our language.

The Son of the cross. Wow right away this is no ordinary agreement and a message which showed The Son and the cross already promised! We as believers are in a covenant with the Son of the cross are we not? We also become Sons of the cross ourselves. Noah and all of his descendants were promised by The Son of the cross that a world wide flood would never be sent again.
The word in the English bible below which states new is actually in the Greek (regenerated or renewed even fresh.) The sacrifice had now been given to fulfill the covenant.
Heb 12:22-25 Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem, to tens of thousands of angels joyfully gathered together, to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to a judge who is the God of all, to the spirits of righteous people who have been made perfect, to Yahushua, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better message than Abel's. See to it that you do not ignore the one who is speaking. For if the hearers did not escape when they ignored the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we turn away from the one who is from heaven!
The blood of Able speaks of animal sacrifices so now we see what this covenant has that is different.
Heb 9:13-14 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are unclean purifies them physically, how much more will the blood of the Messiah, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead actions so that we may serve the living God!
Again we are enlightened to things we never new yet those who came thousands and thousands of years before us instinctively new. We are in a binding agreement with The Son of the cross. So let us treat it as sacred and set apart when we say we are saved!
