Your Creative Ways of Engaging with Alive in the Spirit
  • "Our parish engaged in this conference as a path forward for renewal and change. We are already engaging in discussions on different ways forward, exploring a range of ways of bringing what we have learnt and experienced to our parish priest, PPC and the wider community. It has been an experience of growing light in a time of gloom and discouragement."
  • Community groups (religious orders, youth, family groups) using workshops for input then group discussion.
  • "...like being on a pilgrimage, a journey as an individual as well as with members of my faith community."
  • Parish Pastoral Council focus for meetings.
  • Formation for ministry groups.
  • Using the Prayer Resources for small groups.
  • Professional development (we are looking into obtaining accreditation via state bodies).
  • Parish renewal day/weekend

Your Dreams for Being Alive in the Spirit
We are grateful for those who shared their ideas for being Alive in the Spirit. We are delighted to announce the recipients of the St Mary's Tower Douglas Park Retreat Experience:

Beverley Tang: I would like to have an online Gospel Music Ministry for evangelism. This would be a place where seekers could listen to evangelistic songs I have written and read my blog informing people about the Catholic faith. It would be a place where people can leave comments, feedback and ask questions about the Catholic faith: a place where they can interact and dialogue as they search to know more about Jesus.  An online space would be ideal since this is where a lot of people would initially feel safe.  I am open for others to join me if they feel led to help out in any way.

Adrian Walker: I dream of a joyful closing ceremony at the end of the October session of a Plenary Council in which we listened to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and have discerned that, enriched by our differences, we can get on with spreading the Good News about God's unconditional love in Jesus.

And Barbara Matthies is the lucky winner of the draw for those who completed our feedback survey by Friday 16 July.

Question of the Week
When I try to watch a keynote speaker, all I get is a countdown clock. What am I doing wrong?

The keynote sessions currently are the recordings of the original event, so they include the countdown clock. Start playing video then scroll forward to the point you want to start watching. We are in the process of editing current recordings to offer a version only showing the keynote. However, we will keep a version with the countdown clock for use by groups and communities.

Visit our FAQ page - hopefully someone else has asked your question!

"There is a breadth and a depth to the Alive in the Spirit experience that makes it an invaluable resource for anyone who cares about discipleship in the church at this time. There is plenty of material here for personal growth and reflection, as well as for sharing in small faith groups. The keynote speakers address the big picture, locating us in a challenging time and place, while the excellent workshops address areas of specific ministry in helpful and practical ways. An energising and hope filled experience I highly recommend." - Patricia Gemmell

“To put it simply: the Holy Spirit bothers us. Because he moves us, he makes us walk, he pushes the Church to go forward. And we are like Peter at the Transfiguration: 'Ah, how wonderful it is to be here like this, all together!' ... But don't bother us. We want the Holy Spirit to doze off ... we want to domesticate the Holy Spirit. And that's no good. because he is God, he is that wind which comes and goes and you don't know where. He is the power of God, he is the one who gives us consolation and strength to move forward. But: to move forward! And this bothers us. It's so much nicer to be comfortable.”
