PRWIN'S Environmental
Award of Merit

PRWIN Director, Melanie Moulton presented our 2021 Award of Merit to our community members. The following recipients gave their time, their land or place of work, and support to help complete projects in our watershed. The presentation took place at the Ripley Huron Fall Fair Ambassador Program on September 24th.

PRWIN Community Member Shirley Galloway

Shirley and her husband Harold are the owners of The Workshop in Ripley. Shirley is an active member of the Ripley Business Community. When the committee was initially set up, her husband Harold originally was a member and then Shirley continued on. She is passionate about our village and the appearance of our downtown community.
Shirley has taken on many volunteer hats in our township. She has volunteered at Rosewood RVilla Retirement Living with a group of volunteer ladies and has assisted with the St. Andrews United Church services at Rosewood Rvilla. Also, she picks up and returns books from the Ripley Library for the Rosewoos Rvilla residents.
Shirley has been a member of the Ripley Horticultural Society for several years by volunteering with their fund-raising events and helped with planting flowers displayed around Ripley every year.
Shirley has served many roles with the St. Andrews United Church. She has been the Clerk of Session, an elder, choir member and UCW secretary. She has supported many hours with church events, concerts and fund-raising events. Also, she organized the Chair Yoga Program at the church for seniors.
Before Covid, Shirley would play cards with Trillium Court residents, volunteer with the Ripley Huron Community School Milk Program and offer assistance in the kindergarten classes.
We appreciate Shirley’s kindness and efforts she contributes to our community. 

PRWIN Community Member Conner Dixon 

Conner has been an active volunteer with PRWIN for many years. Conner has planted trees for PRWIN since he was eight years old. He has planted as a member of the 4-H Beef Club with our spring seedling planting days. Also, Conner would help set up and dismantle the PRWIN displays in the arena at our fall fair and participated in our annual Fall Fair Parade to promote PRWIN in our community.
Conner has traveled to many countries and had wonderful experiences. He has worked many summers at the Kincardine Harbour, graduated from Kincardine Secondary School and completed the Applied Nuclear Science and Radiation Safety Program. This Fall, he will be settling in at Chalk River to start a new job.
This past spring, he offered his land and machinery to assist PRWIN with our spring tree planting reforestation sites and sorting seedlings for our PRWIN Free Seedling Program. He has offered several in kind hours to plant our seedlings and to make sure our program would run smoothly. He has assured us we can still use his property for any of our upcoming projects and hopes to move back in the future.

PRWIN Community Member Brad & Kristie Gilchrist 

Brad is a 3^rd generation farmer in Kinloss Township. He is an Angus breeder on the 4^th Concession of Kinloss Township with his wife Kristie and daughter Peyton. Brad has been involved with 4-H Clubs starting at the early age of 10 and is well known for judging at shows. His showing of cattle at an early age has developed his career all over the country and provided many rewarding experiences.
This spring, Brad was involved with one of our cattle crossing projects. The project provided exclusion fencing erected on the 18-mile River and spruce seedling trees planted along the bank of the river. Livestock are fenced out of the banks of the river and only allowed access at the installed crossing. This project will help to address water quality threats and to improve water quality and ecosystem health in our watershed.
The Gilchrist family are stewards to our vision of "Clean water and a healthy ecosystem for the Pine River Watershed".

2021 POTTED TREE ASH REPLACEMENT PROGRAM

Our PRWIN directors pose at Smeltzer's Garden Centre, as they pick up our trees for our 2021 Potted Tree Ash Replacement Program. We had 12 recipients receive a tree, courtesy of our program. We appreciate our directors' time, organization and delivery of the trees to our shoreline residence. A special thank you to Smeltzer's Garden Centre for ordering the trees, as well as NWMO for supporting our 2021 fall tree program.

RED MAPLE PLANTED IN MEMORY OF DR. RICHARD HUFF 

PRWIN was fortunate to receive donations in memory of Dr. Richard Huff, who was a long time cottager of Bruce Beach. To acknowledge these contributions, PRWIN Chairperson David Grant, planted a red maple tree at the Bruce Beach Ball Diamond with family members of the Huff family.
