What we talked about this week

Do you want to volunteer to help get this newsletter out regularly?

This week started with a bang in Newberg, where the two newly elected School Board Members broke public meeting laws and tried to vote to force schools to remove posters and flags supporting Pride, LGBTQ students, and Black Lives Matter.  Watch the portion of the meeting here.   If you live in Newberg or Dundee, write a Letter to the Editor at the News Register and the Newberg Graphic, and to the School Board.

Have you read the in-depth article about the Yamhelas Westsider Trail yet?  Please do. It was recently recognized as one of the best Longreads of the week!

A new group has formed in Yamhill County - Save Yamhill County. They've started by asking Commissioner Berschauer to resign.  Can you sign the petition?   The News Register reported on the effort this Friday.

County Commissioners in Benton, Marion, Polk and Yamhill County selected former Representative Nearman's staffer, Anna Scharf, to replace him in the legislature.  Learn more about her.

Thanks to the legislature and grants, Yamhill County is about to have $3.5 Million to spend on a transitional housing shelter.

Former Linfield professor Daniel Pollack-Pelzner has sued the University for $4 Million.

Progressive Yamhill is a non-partisan group with a regional focus on Yamhill County politics at the city, county, and state level, as well as a vehicle to connect with neighbors on issues and actions at a federal level.  Our goal is to connect, educate, inform, and actively participate in the creation of a local community that shares and supports our mission.  You can learn more about our origin, and our group, at our website.

Our growing Facebook Group is 'Private', meaning that unless you are in the group, you cannot search for it, see anything anyone posts in it, or even find out who else is a member.  We take our members privacy seriously and have a team of moderators who vet every new member before adding them.  In order to enable new members to find us, and to communicate key events to the public, we also have a public Facebook Page.  If you would like to join, and the first link didn't work for you, use the second link and follow the instructions to let us know!
