Message from the Mayor
I am delighted to tell you that last week I completed my “Ware 10s” ten mile run in aid of my charity, Guideposts Trust. I am truly grateful for all the good luck messages and the kind donations so many of you have made. Last week I was pleased to visit Presdales School to see the installation of the new floodlights on the netball and tennis courts. Ware Town Council were pleased to be able to provide funding towards this improvement both for the students and Presdales and the wider community. My fellow-mayor Bob Deering also attended, as Hertford Town Council also provided funding; as they say, you wait years for a mayor and then two turn up at once!
Tuesday of this week saw Stepping Stones Day Nursery and Pre-School, in Crib Street, celebrate their 30th Anniversary. I very much enjoyed meeting their wonderful team of practitioners who have worked throughout the pandemic to provide care and education for the youngest members of our community. They made an amazing 7-layered “rainbow” cake, symbolising hope for the future. We spent a great afternoon in the garden and there was a graduation ceremony for those little ones who are moving on. Congratulations to all at Stepping Stones Day Nursery and best wishes for many more successful years.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Rishi Fernando and I will be judging the allotment competition later this week – a further round of judging will take place on 29th July. Contestants will no doubt be relieved that an expert horticulturist, Brian Ruskin, will be joining us for the final round (as in previous years) to give us good advice!
On Sunday 25th July I will be joining the Royal British Legion, Ware Branch and the Women’s Section, for the unveiling of a silhouette of a ‘Tommy’ in the Priory grounds. This is a celebration of 100 years of the Ware Branch of the Royal British Legion, which was one of the first to be formed in the country.
A meeting of the Neighbourhood Plan Group took place this week. The draft plan is virtually complete and they are still on track to conduct a second public consultation later this summer. You can keep up to date with their progress here: https://www.wareneighbourhoodplan.com/
The school holidays have begun and the weather has been beautiful (apart from the occasional thunderstorm). Now that restrictions have been lifted let us continue to be kind and considerate towards each other, and stay safe!

Our Events Team very much look forward to welcoming more guests back to Ware Priory. We are now able to ease restrictions which will allow many more celebrations to take place. NOTICE is given that the Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of A1170 Baldock Street, Ware from a point in line with the southern boundary of No.28 Baldock Street southwards and south eastwards to its junction with Priory Street, a distance of approximately 176 metres (“the Road”), except for access.
An alternative route will be via A1170 Baldock Street, B1001 (Watton Road/Westmill Road), A10 (unnamed road/Amwell Link Road) and A1170 (Pepper Hill/Amwell Hill/London Road/Viaduct Road/Bridge Foot/High Street).
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
If the Order is made, it shall come into force on 22 August 2021 for a period of up to 18 months. However, the restrictions specified shall only take effect at the times indicated by signs on or near the Road.
A copy of the proposed Order may be inspected free of charge at County Hall, Hertford between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm (excluding weekends, bank and public holidays).

Patients in Hertfordshire & West Essex are still required to wear face coverings in GP practices and other healthcare settings
The guidance from the NHS for healthcare settings has not changed, and patients who are not exempt from wearing a face covering should continue to wear one, follow social distancing and hand hygiene guidance. Grants to help open up vacant premises
East Herts Council has launched a grant scheme to encourage use of vacant shops, offices and industrial units.
As restrictions on social distancing are lifted EHC want to encourage the use of all commercial space in the district. A one-off grant of £5,000 is available for any new or existing business that plans to open new premises.
If you have ever seen a vacant shop on one of our high streets and thought it would be a great venue to launch a new business or pop-up shop, ever seen an empty office or industrial unit that you thought could help you expand your existing business then this could be the incentive you need.

Deadline to apply for East Herts Community Covid 19 Recovery Fund 2021 – 2 August 2021
The deadline is coming up soon so don’t miss out! Up to £7,500 is available to voluntary and community groups in East Herts who can evidence how their organisation was and is part of containing Coronavirus and preventing the disease from impacting our residents and communities and confirm what other grants they have tried to access. Eligible costs include rent, rates, insurance, equipment, PPE and other COVID-19 compliant infrastructure required by the partners to continue to provide their services. EHC are especially interested in receiving applications to support individuals and communities who may have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. For example, we know the impact of Covid-19 on health outcomes shows disparities according to protected characteristics such as disability and ethnicity. We also know that 29% of local super output areas in East Herts are rural and while these areas are lovely green places to live, residents can often feel isolated and struggle to access services, transport and broadband.

Covid-19 recovery funding approved
Plans to invest £9.6m in supporting residents, businesses and communities to recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic were approved by County Council on 20th July.
We’ve seen the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on everyone living and working in Hertfordshire over the past 16 months. As their focus starts to move beyond critical crisis response, plans are now underway to ensure services are effectively restored and that communities are helped to recover from the effects of the pandemic.
HCC are focusing support on those individuals and families who need it most.
Investing £3million into Adult Care Services, funding programmes supporting family carers, residents with learning disabilities and victims of domestic abuse and violence against women and girls
A further £3million will fund initiatives in Children’s Services such as ‘Coming Back Stronger’ a programme of education recovery, including mental health support and mentoring in our schools
A joint package of £2million, will focus on targeted support for Hertfordshire families.
This funding is part of an ambitious agenda for Hertfordshire’s recovery, with future priorities focusing on residents’ health and wellbeing, delivering on our pledge to tackle climate change and ensuring responsible and sustainable growth.
