The lifting of restrictions

At St Mary's Church we believe that everyone is known and loved individually by God and that as many members within one body we are called to be responsible to and for one another, respecting the more vulnerable whose suffering is our suffering (1 Cor 12:12-27).

The removal of
Government restrictions means we are being asked to take even more personal responsibility around coronavirus than before.

We know that people have different feelings about the restrictions that were in place: for some people these restrictions have seemed unnecessary or overly restrictive. For others, the restrictions have reduced the risk to people and those they love.

As a body we now need to move forward without these legal restrictions and as churches we have been asked to decide how best to manage the risk to ourselves and others.

We hope we have found a way which will help those who feel vulnerable continue to feel safe as worship while allowing some of the freedoms which are now possible.

Our church building is large enough to allow people to remain well spaced out and to allow those who wish to wear face coverings to be in an area with others who would like to do the same.

New freedoms

  • We will be allowed to sing
  • The south side of church will be reserved for those who do not wish to wear face coverings
Continuing measures
  •  We will continue to maintain social distance and alternate pews will remain corded off
  •  We will zone church so that the pews on the north side are reserved for those who would like to continue wearing face coverings.
  •  The main doors will remain open
  •  Sanitising and track and trace will still be offered
  •  Capacity will remain at 100
  •  Please do not come to services if you are feeling unwell or have been in close contact with someone with the virus
Things under review
  • We hope to be able to offer refreshments after the service in the next few weeks. We are just working out the logistics
  • We are not yet ready to share the common cup at communion but will keep this under review
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to Becky or call the office.

Prayers
Friday 23rd July - Saturday 31st July 2021
(broadcast each evening on Facebook)

A simple form of evening prayer and candle lighting *

At St Mary's we would like to invite you to join us in a short time of prayer every day at 7pm. It involves lighting a candle and placing it in the window and then saying the following prayers as individuals or as households.  You can join with others in these prayers on our Facebook page.

The Lord almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen.

Our help is in the name of the Lord
who made heaven and earth.

A period of silence for reflection on the past day may follow.

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.

The reading for the day (see below)**

The candle is lit and the following prayer is said
Heavenly Father, accept this burning candle as a sign of faith and love.
Like this candle, bring light into our world
Even as this candle is lit may we know your presence
and be consumed in the warmth of your love.
In your mercy, Lord hear our prayer.

In peace we will lie down and sleep;
for you alone, Lord, make us dwell in safety.

Abide with us, Lord Jesus
for the night is at hand and the day is now past.

As the night watch looks for the morning
so do we look for you, O Christ.

The Lord bless us and watch over us;
the Lord make his face shine upon us and be gracious to us;
the Lord look kindly on us and give us peace. Amen.
