A Clean And Safe Auto Shop

A clean and uncluttered area providing easy access for walking ensures that all employee are safe while working within the space. The Auto Shop does a magnificent job of keeping their area spot clean with tools put away and floors clean of any spills. Thank you Auto Shop for your dedication to safety!

With anticipation of students coming back to campus, the Paint Shop has been busy giving classrooms a fresh coat of paint. They have painted classrooms in over 20 buildings since the end of the Spring semester. They have also worked with Capital Projects to paint accent walls to liven up the spaces. The new paint jobs will help the students feel excited to be back in the classrooms!
Project Compete: Produce Handling Facility

The Facilities Division ensured successful completion of a new Produce Handling Facility, which officially opened at the NC State Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center in Mills River on July 20. NC Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Dean Rich Linton were present for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The facility, which currently houses state-of-the-art washing and sorting lines for produce such as apples and tomatoes, will serve as a training hub for food safety and provide infrastructure for research faculty, as well as for education and Extension activities. The NC Agricultural Research Service, NC State Extension, MHRCEC and faculty co-operators committed additional funds to renovate an existing 3,150-square-foot facility to become the new Produce Handling Facility, which will help North Carolina meet the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act established in 2018. Construction costs were $231,000, and the overall investment was $850,000.  Renovations began in the Fall of 2020 and were completed in the spring of 2021. The limited project construction budget required close collaboration between Jeff Chandler (Director of the Research Center), Charles Brown (Facilities Services and designer of record), Angkana Bode (CPM design project manager), Ranjani Rajagopalan (Facilities Services construction manager) and the contractor, Carolina Specialties Construction, LLC.
Fall Town Halls

Doug Morton, Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Division, held 22 town halls with every Facilities employees in July. He provided a campus update for fall semester and emphasized the four strategic goals: safety, service, staff, and stewardship. Brian Carter, Safety Specialist, also gave a brief talk on the importance of safety during these town halls.
