Hello,

This is an extra edition of the weekly newsletter because we somehow forgot to mention on Saturday that we are looking for a new member of Loaf!

We have a short window to fill this vacancy and want to get the best person possible for the role, so please help us spread the word.

The position is primarily running our shop so we're looking for someone with good retail experience to anchor that through the Christmas period. But this being Loaf there'll be ample opportunities to train up in the bakery and cookery school too.

The job advert is here and below.

Full time position with responsibility for retail

Application closing date: midnight on Sunday 1st August 2021

Interview date: by arrangement in week commencing 9th August

Start date: Beginning of September or sooner as suitable.

About Loaf:

Loaf Social Enterprise Ltd is a pioneering community bakery and cookery school located in Stirchley, South Birmingham. Established in 2009, our guiding principle is to provide great food for our community and build community through great food. We are constituted as a Workers’ Cooperative which means our team of nine employees collectively manage the business. Although there are different areas of responsibility, we co-own the business, there is no boss and we are all paid the same wage. Loaf is an exciting and rewarding place to work as there is always scope to learn and develop new skills in different aspects of the business and to make a big contribution to Loaf’s success. We value our skills and experience as a team and we have a good record of retaining and training staff.

About you:

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team. The person we are looking for will bring their passion for good food to the day to day running of our retail shop. Duties will include preparing baked goods and lunches for sale, managing pre-orders, serving customers, re-stocking and ordering, and cleaning.

We are looking for someone with excellent customer service skills and a welcoming manner who will enjoy working as part of a small team. You will be confident working independently and using your initiative. You will uphold high standards of hygiene at all times, be well organised and have a strong, proven interest in and passion for great food. The role is full-time, but we are happy to consider job-shares. Hours are rota-ed monthly and will be Tuesday-Saturday including some early morning starts and occasional evening work.

While you will be primarily front-of-house, Loaf offers plenty of opportunities for staff to get involved in all aspects of the business, and training will be offered to the interested candidate in supporting our bakers and producing cakes and pastries for the shop, assisting in our Cookery School (re-open after the pandemic in January 2022), marketing, back office duties and business development.

Loaf is a fully democratic workers’ co-operative, and all new team members are strongly encouraged to become full co-operative members and directors of the company after a six month probationary period. Loaf is a values-driven organisation and the successful applicant will be sympathetic to Loaf’s values and those of the co-operative movement, and uphold these in the way they apply themselves to the job. The local community and the strengthening of our local high street is of great importance to Loaf so applications from or with a knowledge of the local area are encouraged.

Application process:

Application is by CV and covering letter, sent in PDF format to us at info@loafonline.co.uk. We will confirm receipt of all applications. Please respond closely to the job description in your covering letter.

Applications must be received by midnight on Sunday 1st August 2021. Interviews will take place by arrangement in week commencing 9th August.

Loaf Social Enterprise Ltd is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
