Mental Health Awareness Session:
"Overcoming Imposter Syndrome"
It is often difficult for young professionals to transition into the workforce after graduation, chase career aspirations, find mentors, develop reciprocal communication strategies to advocate for themselves, and carve out their own paths.

It can make an already high-stress, results-driven, scientific environment even more stressful, especially when individual factors of gender, identity, race and culture are added. However, throughout, the need for mental health awareness is a common thread.

The IEEE Photonics Society's Young Professionals Advisory Committee has teamed up with Dragonfly Mental Health (DFMH), a volunteer-based non-profit that conducts independent research on mental health initiatives targeting academics as well as associated cultural stigmas and institutional barriers. In an ongoing series, both organizations will offer coaching sessions on how to initiate beneficial conversations around mental health.
Topic: "Overcoming Imposter Syndrome"
Date: July 29, 2021
Time: 12:00 EST
Location: WebEx (Virtual)
Imposter Syndrome is an important and widely under-addressed issue that impacts many professionals in every technical domain. All too often, personal feelings of inadequacy get in the way of professional growth.

The intent of this topic is to introduce attendees to tools with which to feel better placed and more confident in their roles and abilities.
