Today, let's focus on our responsiveness to God.

Find a quiet space. Sit up tall, and close your eyes. Set a timer for one to two minutes per movement so that you can be fully present (or increase the time if you want a longer experience).

First, pay attention to God.

Take slow, deep breaths. Focus on the spot that you feel the breath in your body. Settle into the presence of Jesus.
  • As you breathe in, think, "Here I am, Lord..."
  • As you breathe out, think, "... your servant is listening" (1 Samuel 3:10).

Second, ponder your inner world.

Process the following with Jesus:
  • What keeps me from hearing you, Jesus?
  • Do your best to remove those distractions and open yourself to hear from God in these moments.
  • What is God saying to you?

Third, prepare to love others.

Ask Jesus to help you answer the following:
  • What keeps me from hearing others, Jesus?
  • Surrender these obstacles to listening.
  • This week, seek to ask at least one question in every interaction.

A closing prayer:

Father, while you formed the world and us by your Word, you also asked questions when sin entered your good Creation.

Help us learn your ways.
To grow in curiosity.
To ask before declaring.
To listen before assuming.
To give the benefit of the doubt.

Help us to live in such dependence on you that we constantly seek your advice for life.

Amen.

Peace be with you until next week,
Rusty McKie
