COVID-19 Updates

Stage 4 Risk-Based Guidelines

Last week, Austin Public Health announced that Austin–Travis County would be moving to COVID-19 Stage 4 Risk–Based Guidelines. These guidelines are for individual actions and behaviors based on the level of risk to exposure in the community. Stage 4 recommendations are as follows:

Fully vaccinated individuals:

  • Should wear a mask when participating in indoor private gatherings, traveling, and dining or shopping, and should wear a mask for outdoor gatherings, if they are unable to socially distance.
Partially vaccinate or unvaccinated:
  • Should avoid private gatherings, travel, dining and shopping unless essential. Wear a mask when conducting essential activities.
The City of Austin has also prepared Stage 4 safety recommendations for employers to help local businesses and organizations protect employees, customers and the community.

Financial Support for Families

Child Tax Credit

The expanded Child Tax Credit, created by the American Rescue Plan, will deliver financial support to working families struggling to afford daily expenses.

In previous years, families would have to wait until they file their tax return to receive their tax credit for the prior year. Beginning in July 2021 and running through December, qualifying families will be able to get a cash benefit “advance” on the credit, and nearly all hardworking families – roughly 39 million households, covering almost 90 percent of children in the United States – should begin seeing their monthly payments automatically after Thursday, July 15 with no further action required.
