The store

The store is housed in a beautiful old villa in Ponsonby. There are seven themed rooms (Art, Fiction, Children's Books etc.) all of which will be open to book group members to browse, sit, and chat. Bathroom facilities are available. Access is fairly easy but there are a couple of steps to be navigated.

Staff member on hand

A member of staff will be in the store throughout the evening and available for book sales.

Parking

Groups may wish to carpool, as there is limited parking directly outside the store on Ponsonby Road. Monday evenings are the quietest by far.
There are generally parks further along the road (towards Three Lamps) and on the nearby side streets.

Parking costs

  • Ponsonby Road after 6pm: Free
  • Ponsonby Road before 6pm: $1 per hour for the first two hours and then $4 per hour (but only until 6pm)
  • Ponsonby Road Sundays: Free
  • Nearby side streets: Free but a 2 hour time limit before 6pm on weekdays

Snacks

Groups are welcome to bring in their own snacks, wine or beverages of choice. The Open Book has minimal kitchen facilities but has cutlery and plates.

Restaurants in the area

If your group would like more than a snack, it can work well to eat at one of the local restaurants before or after your meeting. You are also welcome to grab some takeaways to eat at the store.

A few spots The Open Book recommend are: Prego (Italian), Po Brothers (Thai) and Boy and Bird (chicken) and all are either just across the road or next door.

Annual or Six-Monthly meeting:

Groups are welcome to come for a one-off meeting, but can also meet at The Open Book periodically by arrangement.

Contact The Open Book team to request a meeting date.
