Special prayers for the COVID-19 Pandemic
Guide us in the path of discipleship, so that, as you have blessed us, we may be a blessing to others, bringing the promise of the kingdom near, by our words and deeds.
- Pray for all those leading the management of the current Sydney outbreak, from the health leaders and government leaders to laboratory workers and those involved in patient care. Pray that their communication will be clear and effective. Pray also for all residents throughout the greater Sydney area that we will all behave responsibly as we observe Health Regulations.
- Pray for Lourich’s Mum, Elaine and his stepdad Thinus in South Africa who have both contracted Covid 19 and give thanks that they have made good progress in their treatment. Continue to pray that they will be protected from a worsening infection and will be able to receive appropriate treatment and make a speedy recovery. Comfort Lourich and Brenda as they seek to support them from afar.
- Pray for modifications that have been made to vaccination protocols that they will give priority to protecting the most vulnerable in our community and achieve the goal of ultimately providing maximum protection to all Australians.
- Pray that those who have already had their first Astra Zeneca vaccination will have wisdom as they make their decision about their second vaccination.
- Pray that the revised vaccination schedules and the operation of the mass vaccination clinics will be well-formulated, the logistics of the delivery of vaccines throughout Australia will run smoothly and the accompanying advertising program will be successful.
- Pray that any outbreaks of the spread of infection will be quickly brought under control and researchers will be able to identify and track cases to isolate the source(s)
- Pray that the range of views about opening Australia’s borders will lead to the right decisions being made about the timing of these changes.
- Pray that our leaders will have great wisdom as they decide what to do about the repatriation of Australian citizens during Covid.
- Give thanks for those governments worldwide who are putting aside funds to assist poorer countries to have their own vaccination programs and pray that they will have great wisdom as they embark on the program that there will not be a “rich/poor divide” and there will be sufficient funds for all people needing vaccinations to receive them
- Pray that we will be sensitive to the needs of others in our community who are suffering additional stresses as a result of measures that have been introduced to reduce the spread of the virus. Ask also that God will give us ways we can show His love to those around us.
General prayer points for this week
God, thank you for showing us what love is by sending us your perfect Son to earth to save us. Without Your love, we have nothing of value to share and we gain nothing, so please help us to love others as You do. Purify our hearts and our intentions, and let everything we do in life stem from a desire to glorify You. In Jesus name, Amen
- Pray for the unrest in South Africa that people of all persuasions will behave calmly and not seek to express their dissatisfaction with violence. Enable the Churches to provide leadership in these troubled times.
- Pray for Paul Stewart that his treatment will bring about improvement in his health. Comfort him and grant him patience as he receives this care.
- Pray for all those in our Church family who are facing stresses of various kinds that they might know that you are the God who cares and we might be able to support them in prayer.
- Ask God to show us how we should worship Him now as a Church, after worshipping at home privately and virtually on Sabbath for so long, and that our lives will be influenced by the reality of what He did so long ago.
- Pray for Amy and Gil now they are out of isolation and settle into life in Perth that all the necessary arrangements will proceed smoothly
- Pray for Willem’s mum as she continues her treatment that it will achieve all that is intended. Be with the whole family as they interact remotely with each other in supporting Brenda.
- Pray too, for Simone’s mum and dad, for speedy and complete recovery after their recent surgery, and as they make plans for their future home as they both recover. Pray, too, for Willem, Simone, Amelie and Madeleine as they “minister to them at a distance”.
- Pray for other Church families who are looking for new accommodation that they will be guided by you as they search.
Holy, holy, holy God, fill us with strength and courage, with discernment and compassion, that we may be your instruments of justice and love in this world, that it may be on earth as it is in heaven.
