THE NORTHERN EYE PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL
Dear Patron,

As always, a very warm welcome to new members of The LSP Society, whether you've migrated from Patreon or started supporting The Lifeboat Station Project for the first time.

I hope all's well in your world and that you're managing to survive in such bumpy times. Hopefully, the sun will be a tonic for those enjoying the heatwave in the UK this weekend.

Unfortunately, Covid-19 is now under our roof after managing to keep it at bay for so long. Our youngest son, Jude, became ill and tested positive for it on Tuesday, so I'm writing to you halfway through our period of self-isolation.

The pandemic still feels very real and it certainly seems to be rife here in Newcastle upon Tyne. As you can imagine (and as many of you will know), self-isolation is tricky in all kinds of ways when it comes to running a household and The Lifeboat Station Project. Thank goodness Jude seems to be getting a little better now and that Kath and I have managed to stay Covid-free so far too.

I've written to all those who have print and shop orders pending. Thankfully, everybody has been completely understanding.

In better news, I'm feeling a little jubilant as I finally finished the first draft of an article, which I've been invited to write for a rather splendid Dutch magazine. Self-isolation has proved to be the perfect time to finish it off and submit it to the editor — a satisfying way to head into the weekend last night. More on that in due course.

In travel news, I'm still liaising with the RNLI about the possibility of resuming my journey in September. There are many considerations on both sides. I'll let you know as soon as final decisions are made — it's so difficult to make any concrete plans at the moment, isn't it?

An excellent event has been confirmed, though: The Northern Eye Photography Festival in North Wales this October.

The speakers have been announced and I feel utterly privileged to be among them. Indeed, half of the speakers will (hopefully) be reading this because they're members of The LSP Society! Another excellent feel-good layer to proceedings.

Anyway, feel free to click on each of the portraits above to find out more information and click below to see the 1 minute blog post I've put together, which includes some fringe festival news too:

APP TIPS

Thank you so much for embracing the LSP Society app, which has already been in the cybersphere for a month.

Well over 100 of you have installed it for Android and iOS and it all seems to be going very smoothly.

I've found it very moving at times, not only because of some of the stories you've been sharing but also how it's connected us together in even better ways than I'd hoped.

More features will be on their way soon. For example, we should be able to upload videos from next week and I've got my fingers crossed that we'll be able to 'react' to comments soon too.

I'll let you know when these features become available but I thought you might like these four tips in the meantime:
1) Get in touch: You can connect to and follow members via their profiles, just like you can on other social platforms. You can send Direct Messages to one another too, which is also the quickest way to get in touch with me directly if you have any questions.
2) Enhance your posts and comments: When you create a new post or comment, use the 'Aa' button to add features such as bold, italic and web links. Think of each post/comment as having the potential to be a mini blog post!
3) Catch-up with newsletter notifications: If you'd like to catch-up with previous LSP Society newsletter notifications, you can find links to them via the app's 'More Screen'. From this issue onwards, I'll start numbering the newsletters again to make it easier to keep track of them.
4) Rate the app: I'm told that ratings and reviews on Apple and Google are a good thing — if the ratings and reviews are good, of course! So, it would be kind if you have a moment to rate the app via the link in the 'More Screen'. You never know, it might be another way to encourage new members to sign up!
As well as the tips above, you'll see that you can do many of the things you're able to do elsewhere, like adding a Profile Photo and even creating Groups among yourselves. I've just remembered that I needed to turn on the Cover Photo feature, so you can add one of those to your Profile now too!

If you haven't tried writing your first post yet, perhaps now's the time? It'll be great to see you there and you'll be most welcome.
As ever, thank you very much for reading and for your continued support, which has enabled me to keep going during the pandemic. I can't wait to hit the coast again soon!

Remember, if you know somebody else who would enjoy membership to The LSP Society, you can now gift it to them here.

I'll look forward to reading your comments wherever they may land. If you'd like to get in touch, simply reply to this email or send me a direct message via the app.

Cheerio for now and keep on keepin' on,

Jack Lowe
