The filming studio has been set up with all the new equipment the team was able to purchase with your generous support! We are thankful to see God always providing for the needs of this ministry, and look forward to continuing the journey with you.

The Board of Directors will meet on July 27 to discuss long-term planning for the project. This includes:

  • adjusting translation timelines and goals (when will things be completed?)
  • examining budget and fundraising plans (how much will it cost? how much will we have?)
  • praying about how to expand the project's capacity (what does the team need to finish translating the Bible as soon as possible?)

If you have been considering giving financially to the ministry, a regular monthly commitment would mean the team has just a little more certainty and stability in these uncertain times. Email us if you would like to discuss or know more about how you can consider including the JSL Bible Translation Project in your giving.

Translation Updates:

  • Ezra 7-10
    • Another round of Comprehension Check was done with Deaf Christians last week! The team always checks with both Christian and non-Christian groups to make sure the translation will be widely usable.
    • Two days of checking were originally scheduled, but it turns out there is a lot more to discuss than previously anticipated! Thankfully, our checkers graciously made time in their schedules to come back on July 20 and 28 to finish up. Please pray that the checkers will have the wisdom to make good comments, and the translation team will have the humility and discernment to make revisions accordingly.
  • Obadiah
    • The revisions are all done for now, and the team is preparing a clean draft for Comprehension Checks!
    • Because the signer is located outside of Tokyo, they will participate remotely via Zoom while the checkers meet with another team member in Tokyo to review the drafts.
    • Ideally, the team would like to have 3-4 or even more people come help with checking, but due to social distancing measures they may only be able to invite 2 or 3 people at a time. Please pray for God to provide a safe space for these checks as well as enough people willing to help.
  • Romans 1-8
    • This week, the Romans team is meeting in person at the office to go over the 6th and 7th drafts.
    • Tokyo continues to be in a State of Emergency anticipating the Olympics, and with the slow vaccine rollout we are trying to have staff work remotely whenever possible. However, some things are simply easier, faster, and more accurate to do in person so those who need to use the office still can come in.
  • Joshua 1-12
    • This team has two remote signers who are newer to the project. They are training to use our shadowing technique to produce clean drafts. Without this, the drafts will not have natural eye gaze and facial expressions.
    • Additionally, the two signers have been working on different chapters concurrently, so now they have to compare and finalize details to make sure vocabulary and phrasing are consistent between their drafts.
