Commemorating Jim Budde

In honor of James E. Budde 1939-2021

James E. Budde, longtime OCTA Treasurer and advocate for OCTA endowment funds, passed away on Monday, July 12. He was 81.

Budde served as OCTA Treasurer from 1989 to 1998 and was instrumental in establishing OCTA’s initial endowment funds with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. He also served for many years on OCTA’s Investment Advisory Committee, where he was a strong protector of the endowment funds.
Valued at just over $400,000 in 1998, OCTA endowment funds today are valued at more than $2 million, a tribute to Jim’s vision and initiative.

Jim and his wife, Judy, were familiar faces at OCTA conventions for many years, until he was slowed by age. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Jean Marie Dawson, Julie Ann Bolton and Jana Lynne Land and their husbands, along with three granddaughters.

He was born July 18, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Professionally he was a pharmacist.
Funeral services are scheduled on Friday, July 16, at St. Thomas More Church in Kansas City. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. and interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial contributions to the Life Issues Institute, 1821 West Galbraith Road, Cincinnati OH 45239, or Vitae Caring Foundation, 1731 Southridge Dr.., Suite D, Jefferson City MO 65102.
